Joe Deardorff and his wife arrived home Sunday morning after spending the winter in California. Both Mr and Mrs Deardorff are reported to be exceptionally well.
Joy Webb arrived from Columbia Tuesday. Oy Webb quit State University to enlist in the U S Army Signal Corps at Moberly, passed exams, but failed an eye test in St Louis. He now works for Webb Bros setting up Hercules buggies.
Chas Barnard and his wife plan to return to Joplin this week where Barnard will work as a salesman for Ben I. Wurzel Clothing Co. He has been employed at Harbor store recently and has made many warm friends there. Subscribe for your daily paper at the News office.
Blacksmith A D Gilbreath was sharpening a shovel Monday when steel fragments entered his eyes. One or two pieces were removed and observers report a fair chance of full recovery. Also, St J Elliott of Carytown, a well known farmer, grew suddenly ill Saturday prompting family arrivals Sunday. John Marsh, who resigned from the bank board, will move his family to Amarillo Texas to run an insurance business. bank’s new assistant cashier remains unnamed.
Park Board vice-president K W Scott calls a meeting at Webb lives office today at 7 p m to discuss leasing the north park for crop planting. Board members listed include J Mayzlett J W Seon day Good Mra C f4 Mayelett Mra A I Drake and Miss Fox May Farm the Railroad Right of Way. Turner directs Missouri Pacific Railway Co to allow sections of the right of way to be cultivated by applicants. no land charge is stated.
The Jasper Mercantile Company winds up its affairs this week. Manager Handy and his wife will move to Kansas City. Hardware and implements sold to J C Tucker of Ottawa Kansas. Grocery department sold to HH Deardorff and Jake Wine, longtime local residents. Blucker opens new store and will serve the trade. Both new firms remain in their present quarters with announcements in this paper.
Embroidery Club members enjoyed an afternoon at Mrs. Bert Ward’s home with hosts Mesdames Frank Rtce Clint Teeter and Chas Ward. Lilac decorations complemented a guessing contest and a two course luncheon. Attendees included Mrs. H E Bharp Anna Spaid J N Marsh W H Knott and many others plus Miss Grace Teeter and Oma Webb.
Rev. L. W. Duncan of Joplin will preach at the Christian Church in Jasper County on May 6 both morning and evening. Everyone is invited to attend. The Jasper News notes the ad reach this section offers to families in Asper and Barton Counties at low cost.
