Terrible fire tragedy claims Hatmead Farm family
A fatal house fire destroyed the Hatlmead Stock Farm home of Mrs. W. E. Hall and her son, with Mrs. Hall and Miss Alma Shaw perishing. Mr. Hall suffered severe burns while searching for them. the bodies of the two women were found the next day. Tom Hall survives, living in Carthage. Funeral services were held at First M B Church with Eastern Star and Elks in attendance. March of subscriptions and renewals to The News followed in April.

Boots, about 68, died at home Tuesday night after liver disease and a stroke. A Jasper resident for 25 years, he came from near Council Bluffs, Iowa, with wife and daughter Mia.
