Ruth Gresham, 20, died after an appendicitis and complications last Saturday. Born Ruth Smelser, she moved to the community at 17 and joined church and social life. Funeral Sunday at the Brethren Church with Rev. Swift officiating. burial in Church Cemetery. The Sunbeam Class issued resolutions honoring her as a devoted member and friend, expressing sympathy to her husband Louis Gresham and her parents.

Families Struck by Fire Near Jasper After Tragic Burial
A two story tenant house on J F Gulicks place four miles west of Jasper burned Monday about 9 am. Julie Henley and husband with children and Mr Isom and wife lived there. The upper floor was destroyed and most household goods lost. The families had just buried their eldest daughter, nearly 11, the day before. Community fundraising is under way to help Mr and Mrs Isom who lost almost everything.

City Park Improvements Under Local Board Direction
Extensive city park work is underway under the city park board led by A H Laughead with Miss Ehel Peterson as secretary. Members include E W Scott Dr Knott H C Cordz Jay Good Mrs A F Drake and Mrs C La Hayzlett. Trees and a rose bed are planned with hedges new cement walks and a bridge in the south park. The project will enhance Jasper's park and the town's west area.

School Board Elects Superintendent and Four Teachers
The school board met last Wednesday night and elected F. C. Wilkins as superintendent and four grade teachers for the next year. Prof RK FE Hurt did not seek reelection to attend the State University. Mrs Anna Rex Miss Faye Grim Alma Seidner were elected grade teachers. Miss Patrician Nichols of Lamar was elected but later wrote the secretary that she would teach at another school. The result leaves one high school teacher and one grade teacher to be elected. Janitor W S Cavance was elected.

Jasper Band Opens Concert Season Next Saturday Night
The Jasper Commercial Club Band will commence the public band concerts for the season next Saturday night April 29. The band is stronger this season than ever before and we may expect some good work this summer. Correspondents should mail their letters Monday to reach the office Monday evening.

The Commercial Club led about 20 members and the club band to Liberty Schoolhouse in Jasper County to boost good roads. A crowd of farmers attended and women’s cooperation was urged. W H Metzger was named president and Ralpherry secretary of the new community club, with 14 signing the roll and a follow-up meeting planned for next Saturday to draft by-laws and expand organization.
