Lt Thomas is recovering from a surgical operation in a Kansas City hospital. Mrs J B Thoms returned from Kansas City Tuesday afternoon with news that surgeons pronounce their patient out of danger.
The Jasper Mercantile Co traded 12000 dollars of merchandise Tuesday to John Tucker of Ottawa Kansas for farm land near Waverly Kansas. The Jasper Mercantile Co is owned by the T W Ballew Loan and Investment Co of Kansas City with A H Handy as local manager. Tucker will continue the business at the same stand assisted by W D Latrel. Flenny Durst of Ottawa represents Tucker in stock inventory and will depart for Gilman Missouri to oversee another stock operation.
Mrs James Cherry lies critically ill at Carthage Hospital after a five hour surgical operation. She is daughter of Mrs I Y Dyers and sister of J Ke Dyers, Mrs C O Wine, and Mrs P V Roberts.
Telegram announces the death of Rev W T Ferguson long known as pastor of the Missouri church in Jasper. He died in Mount Vernon Kentucky after six weeks of serious illness including neuritis pneumonia, with no use of his lower limbs and fragile nerves. A letter from Mrs Ferguson dated April 18 describes medical care, nurses, and limited visitors while expressing gratitude for local support and prayers.
The Jasper Commercial Club met in the secretary's office on Thursday night April 19. Committees reported progress on a mile long road west from Jasper and a Jasper to Barton County line road with $198 raised so far. The secretary was authorized to provide labor for a bridge across a branch. The Park Board discussed turning the north park over for garden use by school children and tree planting later. A special meeting was set for May 1 to consider graveling the crushed rock road south of Jasper, with a follow up called meeting on April 26 for all members.
A quiet wedding occurred last Sunday April 22 191% at the Patterson home near Jasper. Miss Gladys Vonia Patterson wed Harrison Vern Waltz with Rev L I Pinnell presiding. Relatives attended due to the groom's mother's illness. The bride wore turquoise blue satin with gold lace and a dinner followed. The couple will reside on the Waltz farm and begin life together amid good wishes and prayers for smooth waters ahead.
Meredith Hendricks of Jasper area holds about 1,500 bushels of stored wheat two years' crops worth 3,750 pounds at current prices. He could fetch 2.50 per bushel but has not hurried to sell. He did sell some at the Schooler Mieyator last Saturday at 2.50.
Mr Fox and Miss Nora arrived Saturday morning from Arizona where they spent the winter most time in Phoenix meeting former Jasper residents and enjoying reunions with friends from Jasper.
Clarence Read brought a wagon load of wheat weighing 86 bushels and 50 pounds to Farmers Elevator on Monday and received a check for 217.08. The text notes the Methodist district conference in session, adding a light local verse about good behavior this week.
