Attention of qualified voters is called to the city election in Jasper on Tuesday April 6. Each ward will elect one alderman. J Hull Mayor notes one ad in The News is worth four on the fence.
Funeral services were held for J. Mason Brown of Moston Barton County at Jasper M E Church. Rev D J Dowless and Rev K H Sapp officiated with Boston Church choir, pallbearers from Boston Church. Brown, born November 12 1859 in Indiana, died after cancer of the liver in St Louis Missouri Pacific Hospital following an operation. He had lived in Missouri since age 17 and married Rosa Bryant in 1887. Survived by wife Rosa M Brown and two sons Mason F Brown and Archie M Brown, a daughter and a son died earlier. he had 15 years with Missouri Pacific Railway, the last decade as Boston station master. He was a loyal church member and respected railroad employee. A friend quoted lines about life’s labor done and the righteous dying.
Poor pay lowers teacher standards in Jasper as towns near and far send pupils to the district. Officials note past par with peers but warn that to keep quality, the district must find funds, likely via tax or bonds. Nearby Carthage and Lamar already consider raises and levies. Potential teaching vacancies loom, signaling higher costs ahead.

The meeting at Nunnel ly's Hall Tuesday night nominated F. F. Follmer and T. H. Hammond for the school board. For member city council west ward T. H. Hammond and east ward candidates C. W. Bedell H. Jackson and wife from Indiana visiting M. L. Arner and family in Jasper and vicinity.
A man induced to buy brash name sandpaper, Devoe Motor Car Finish, and top dressing applied to a Cadillac. Elis wife, away on a month’s visit, learns of the trade via a friend’s letter. She returns to find a small auto finish check instead of a large payment for a new car, causing surprise at home.
