A windy storm last Sunday caused minimal damage in the area with few limbs blown from trees and minor telephone service disruption in Jasper. The report notes the event lacked severe impact and ongoing recovery details are limited.
Jasper High hosted a girls only declamatory contest at the M. B. Church last Friday. Winners were Misa Hyder first, Lena Wiseman second, Minnie Gresham third. Hyder impressed with The Lost Word and Wiseman with The Battless Rebel. Judges included Deatherage, Oldham, and Welser. Prof. Thomas asks 50 more Jasper attendees join Friday at Carterville for the county contest.
An inspector praised Jasper High School for being well organized and having strong equipment for its size. The state superintendent’s letter confirms the school remains first class and all offered courses are approved. The inspector also recommends adding an domestic science course to enhance life readiness for students.
The mines meeting of citizens Tuesday night nominated candidates for city council and the school board. T. J. Hammond seeks reelection to the City Council West Ward, C. W. Bedell for East Ward, F. Polimer for reelection to the school board, and T. H. Hammond to succeed J. W. Brown. No other officials were listed for Tuesday's election.

Mrs Emma Brown widow of Carl Brown of Jasper died at her Carthage home after a long TB illness. Funeral at Knell's Chapel conducted by Rev E H Sapp with singing by Mrs Allen Peterson and Mrs Ollie Roberta and Messrs Sapp and W Thomas. Burial at Oak Hill near Carthage. Age about 20. Survived by two sons aged 14 and 9, father S C Steiner of Carthage, four brothers O A Steiner Tul an Okla J B Steiner Batesville Ark Dennis and Frank Steiner, twins of Mrs Town. Sisters C A Pyle of Carthage Q G T Pyle of Carthage and Mrs Steve Garrett north of Jasper. Husband Carl Grown died Sept 19, 1917. She had been at Jasper County TB hospital near Webb City. Influenza last winter hastened death.
Easter program announced for Sunday evening April 4 features songs and readings by multiple classes.
