Church News notes Brother Powell Smith of Diamond Missouri will preach at the Christian Church for several nights starting Monday March 27. A good tall and earnest sermon is urged for all who attend.
Emery Tiller purchased a model 74 Overland touring car this week and Marion Henderson ordered the same model from local agent C. H. Lilly.
A good roads meeting at Blue Star Schoolhouse in Barton County spotlighted the Jefferson Highway and Ridgeland Township road work. Speakers including W Scott and committee members urged community support, with plans for meetings at Lynnland and Bloomingdale schools to discuss westward routes toward Jasper Carthage Highway and baseline road.
Alpha Club met with Mrs Hurt in regular session Tuesday afternoon. Lesson study continued In Shamrock Land led by Mrs Drake. Miss Lizzie Lawson conducted a musical contest and a Pat contest. Refreshments were served by Miss Lawson with Mrs Hurt assisting. Next week the group meets with Mrs Leiss.
Jasper's auto mobile owners donate their cars and drivers for public meetings in nearby towns. They provide transportation for gatherings and attend funerals with scores of machines, rain or shine, reflecting the generous spirit of the community.
Measles is scattered across Jasper with a few families affected including young children. Reports reaching this office indicate no cases of serious illness from the disease.
Tra B Workman of Lamar and Bessie Patterson of Lamar were married at the First Methodist Church parsonage in Jasper by Dr. J J Martin on Sunday. They returned to Lamar on the evening train.
All members of Almond Lodge are requested to be present at the meeting Tuesday evening March 28. State President Mrs. Allen Hughes is expected to be present. Jessie Horton, N. G. Bessiembree, Secretary.
Tribute notices Zelda May Bowers youngest daughter of A. Covert and wife born Webb City Missouri August 11 1898 died March 14 1916 at age 17 years 6 months and 25 days. She married James Willie Bowers of Jasper September 7 1911 and had one son Alvin Trunsell. A faithful Presbyterians member since 1907 she died after a brief throat illness. The funeral was held March 19 at the M E Church in Jasper with wide church support and many friends in attendance.
The Hawkeye Glee Club under the Community Lyceum Bureau offered an excellent entertainment in Jasper last Monday evening. A late start due to the arriving evening train at 4:20 drew mild comment, but the male quartet, mandolin and guitar group, and saxophone quartet drew hearty applause along with Penney’s readings and Schulze’s tenor solos. The program was praised as one of the best lyceum features seen in Jasper.

Notice states Dr J J Martin will preach a special sermon to Odd Fellows Sunday evening March 26 at the first M E Church. Jasper Lodge 464 members and visiting brothers are asked to meet at the lodge hall at 7:80 sharp and go in a body to the church by order of the Noble Grand.
N H Patterson received a telegram Saturday announcing the death of Virgil Patterson twelve year old son of Luther Patterson and wife of Stitchton Ky Luther Patterson is a brother of Abe Isaac C K Tom and N J Patterson of Jasper
At Webb City county meeting last week J. Roberts and C. J. Hayzlett were chosen as delegates to the State Democratic Convention. The State Convention assembled at St Joseph Mareli 21.
Pastor C. L. Greene announces his departure from the First Baptist Church of Jasper. He will preach his last sermon Sunday and another at the Blue Schoolhouse Monday at 1 p.m. then leave for Tecumseh, Oklahoma with his family. All are invited to attend.
