W C Hibbs and wife of Webb City visited Q O Lawrence and wife Sunday. Mr and Mrs Lillibridge of Carterville also stopped by. The ladies are sister and cousin of Mrs Lawrence.
Missouri Pacific crews of painters and carpenters worked on spring depot repairs last week. The company is distributing 85 pound rails from Nevada south and will lay rails and strengthen bridges and culverts before placing new 234 ton engines on the division.
Mount Carmel Church eight miles northeast of Jasper burned to the ground last Sunday evening. Gasoline lamps ignited the paper ceiling as the service began. the piano, Bible, and pulpit stand were removed but the building was a total loss. Insurance coverage stood at 2600. The church, an old landmark, dated from the early seven ties.
The week ending February 28 closed the period for 100 year subscriptions at 1.50 from March 1. February saw over 200 renewals and 27 new subscribers while many pre-paid ahead to keep the old rate. The list names numerous subscribers and renewals, reflecting extended paying before the price rise.
Earl Harvey and Miss Vertie Mae Oxley wed Sunday February 25 at the Oxley home near Mountain Grove Missouri in a ceremony conducted by Rev. Co W Gitt. The couple, praised for character and farming roots, plan to reside on the Wm Harvey farm near Jasper. The community extends best wishes for their future.
I M Cline dies in Webb City hospital after interurban car strikes his runabout at a Brookline Heights crossing near Lakeside. Frank Hardenbrook, drilling near Picher, is shaken but uninjured. Cline leaves wife and four children, with parents and siblings mourning. He was 45, a Jasper area resident, member of the M E Church, and highly regarded.
Albert Riley of New Estom area is recovering after a runaway wagon incident that injured him with a broken ankle and multiple bruises. He was hauling lumber for the New Estom store when the team panicked near Boston and the wagon toppled, dragging him briefly. He will need crutches for some time.
Birth notices include a girl born February 22 to Dr Knottto W McPeak and wife six miles west of Mochaveat and a girl born February 25 to I J Tunnell and wife six miles northeast.
