Farmer Fred Kerrick, about two to three miles east of Jasper, lost his barn and contents in a Sunday morning fire around 3:00. The barn held 650 bushels of corn, several tons of hay, tools, and implements. Loss estimated at 1500 dollars, with both barn and contents insured. Correspondents urged to mail letters by Monday evening.
Rev R M Salts arrives as new Christian Church pastor with wife and baby and settles on East Grand avenue. He will preach every second and fourth Sunday in Jasper after publishing a paper at Miller Lawrence County and selling out last February. Rev W J Mills from Zanesville Ohio becomes the Presbyterians new pastor and will preach every second Sunday, with his family to join later this year.
The Republican and Progressive conventions converge on Hughes as a broad compromise nominee tied to Roosevelt positions while Fairbanks is praised for integrity and service. Most progressive leaders, including Murdock and Johnson, lean toward Hughes. Democratic chances shift to Wilson after St Louis. Col Fred Gardner tours Jasper as a Democratic candidate with backing from local Republicans.
A 60 year old man and his wife traveling through Jasper in a DC plated Ford on a go as you please trip. They have camp gear and plan to stop where they like enjoying health and life as they visit Washington DC and Baltimore before returning home to Idaho.
On Tuesday evening June 8, Lester L. Pahlow of Lamar and Miss Margaret Moran were married by Dr J J Martin at the Methodist parsonage in Jasper. Pahlow works with Goodrum Trust Co. Moran is J W Moran’s daughter. The couple will tour the West, visiting Colorado Springs Denver and San Francisco, and will reside in Samar around July 1.
George Earl bought a Crow Elkhart touring car last week in a bold choice to add another attraction to his manly graces. He and his aunt Mrs Lockie and Eli Scott with family started the new car with a 170 mile round trip to Noel Arkansas and back last Saturday.
A rumor claimed the Buster jitney service would be discontinued. Mr. Buster denies the report and says the Studebaker car will keep its schedule between Jasper and Carthage as the Commercial Club meets tonight.
The News urges Jasper to host an old time Fourth of July celebration with a morning parade led by the band, an automobile parade, park program, more music, speeches, games, baseball, and fireworks. A ball game between old players may cap the day. locals Ed Davis Jim Hitter Tom Bell and the Arner brothers are mentioned. Call Bert Webb or Charley Hayzlett of the Commercial Club to participate.
Heavy weekend rains disrupted train and mail schedules across multiple lines. Bridges washed out near Horton and Fort Scott forced detours via Sedalia and Nevada. Katy line passengers from Kansas City to Jasper rode detoured routes, extending travel from 11 to 23 hours.
The Epworth League convention drew about 74 delegates from Joplin Neosho Monett Webb City Carterville Carl Junction Lam ar Nevada Liberal Rich Hill and other towns. Jasper hosted warmly and the event proved beneficial to both the young delegates and Jasper as a whole. Visitors left with a positive impression and plans to speak well of Jasper, urging citizen cooperation for future gatherings.

Claude Hill, formerly employed at the Schooler drip store and later at Neosho, has purchased the Schooler drug store. Dr Schooler will stop the drug business and focus on medical practice with offices over the Joe Denidoril store. Hill is described as an progressive young pharmacist well known to local patrons.
About half of our country news failed to reach us this week due to high water and rural carrier route failures. Some correspondents managed to get their items through, and we appreciate their efforts while noting that in some cases it was impossible to reach us.
A Friday porch party hosted by Mrs J P Leiss celebrated her daughter Mrs Jack Grimes of Wagoner Oklahoma visiting in the city. Red Ruimbler roses and catalpa decor filled the south porch while guests enjoyed a rock game and a two course luncheon. Attendees from Oronogo joined as partygoers dispersed. Commercial Club meets tonight.
