The Missionary Society of the M. E. Church South will hold an Easter bazaar in the near future with the exact date to be announced in this paper.
John Daugherty of six miles northeast of Carthage secured a divorce from Anna Daugherty at the February term in Joplin circuit court. Anna Binney, the former Anna Daugherty, was granted restoration of her maiden name.
Don Bedell and wife mourn the death of their 10 month old daughter at their Jasper area home two miles north of town Saturday night. The funeral was Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Bedell’s parents on North Main Street with interment at Jasper Masonic Cemetery. Dr. J J Martin led the services.
Obituary notice for John Hinamon born June 27 1887 in Marion County Ohio. Died February 12 1915 in Jasper Missouri at age 78. Survived by wife Amanda Ferris and nine children including Charles Webb City Guy New Windsor Orrin Jasper. Civil War veteran with 96th Ohio Infantry. Funeral conducted by Brother Harry Cool with interment at Brethren Cemetery.
Mrs A O Drake hosted the Alpha Club ladies Tuesday afternoon with a review of Conditions of education in England and a game of hearts. A two course luncheon followed, served by the hostess assisted by Mary Alice Drake Lida Drake and Mabel Harris. The club adjourned to meet Friday with Miss Pax president. Guests included Mrs Omer Webb Mrs J Sk Schooler and Miss Mabel Harris.
Bell attended a hog sale in Jamesport Missouri last week where 50 sows sold at an average of 46.10. Twenty six mail bids came from eight states and ten bids were rejected as too low. Mr Well shipped three of his hogs to Arkansas last Friday and one this week.
Will Wood received a lemon by mail this week from his brother Dr. A J Wood of St Petersburg Florida. The fruit measured 15 inches around. Alois Christmas also notes Mr Wood received a crate of grapefruit and cranberries from trees in the Doctor's yard at St Petersburg. Dr Wood was once well known locally but had been away about 10 years.
Helen Nebel suffered a chin cut after falling on the pavement while playing with her cousin, the Jackson girls. She required treatment to close the wound. The incident occurred Tuesday evening.
The Republican county central committee in Carthage calls a county convention for Thursday March 1 at 11 am to select delegates to the state convention in Excelsior Springs on April 6 and to the congressional district convention in Joplin on April 20. Representation bases on Manlove vote totals from 1914, with each precinct receiving one delegate per 22 votes or major fraction thereof, expected to yield about 110 delegates. Precinct primaries are slated for Tuesday evening March 7 to choose county delegates.
Ven Hackett and family, soon to relocate to Herman Lotsol farm south of Jasper, were surprised by friends and neighbors on Wednesday evening. Guests brought edible offerings and good wishes. About 00 people attended. After refreshments, hosts were bid success and happiness in new home as the group dispersed. Editor notes Mr and Mrs Hackett move from miles east of Jasper to Herman Kotsch's farm south of Jasper.
Jasper’s oldest resident, Mrs Henry File, aged eighty nine, celebrated her birthday on Monday at home with her daughter Mrs O L Thacker and others. She lives with family in Jasper and is employed in the railroad shops at Pittsburg Kansas. Her son George Vile of Joplin was absent. Though physically fairly good, her memory of events and faces is impaired.
The county court appointed Ireston Township overseer 1.C. Patterson for a second term. Wy. I. Stark was appointed after no club presentation, resides near dusper, and is expected to oversee with an assistant on the west river side. Will Lauderbaugh was selected. Henry Cather, a longtime Jasper County resident and prominent farmer, died at his home after a long illness. He was born in Guernsey County and, after varied work from Colorado mining to freighting, settled northwest of Jasper on 620 acres. He married Frelyan Pierwe Alba in 1875 and left seven children. Cather was known for integrity, kindness, and community uplift, and his funeral was held at the family home followed by burial at Stafford Cemetery.
Seniors and juniors of Jasper High School held a Saturday evening reception for Orville Winder in the high school rooms. Winder met former classmates before returning to Whittier, California, following the death of his sister Mrs Toy Tadford. Miss Grace Toomer played two piano selections and Mary Alice Drake sang as Hearts was performed and refreshments were served amid Valentine decor.
Mart Replogle of Windsor Cotp visited local relatives and friends this week. He came with two sheep cars bound for Kansas City and attended a Commercial Club meeting at the Opera House. Also in town were Dan Replogle of Crthago and W C Mickey’s brother, l in-duow relations noted.
