Last Saturday Lester Giodsford and Owen Chen attempted to handle platform trucks as the afternoon train arrived. A truck slipped on slick pavement, rolled into a moving tent, and two barrels of cream were spilled and cans broken. Boys suffered minor injuries and the depot crews canceled operations briefly.
After a week of clouds a sunny day lifts spirits in town. Farmers bring in wheat at 1.25 dollars per bushel and hogs at 40 dollars per hundredweight, drawing a large crowd and smiles all around.

The Jasper Commercial Club met last Thursday with President C. J. Hayzlett in charge. By laws were read amended and adopted. Secretary Bert Webb reported four new members and monthly dues of 147 with January dues collected and 145 in treasury. A road overseer for the township was chosen as W. T. Simmons after a vote. The executive sessions discussed a Credit Rating List for merchant members to protect local merchants from bad accounts, aiming to extend to most customers and improve business standing.
The county court on Tuesday unmade its WVU appointment affecting townships not wholly within special road districts. Named persons and townships include Preston, Lingoln, McDoonald, Barcosie, Jackson, Twin Groves, Mineral, Madison, Sheridan, Jasper, and Duval. Most indicate reappointment pending.
The past week brought slippery streets from ice causing several people to fall. Walter Dodd slipped in front of the post office while Ernest Crawford dropped while carrying a baby and water, fracturing wrists and injuring the child. Miss Chill and Daird also fell, with serious wrist injuries, as others slipped on the ice and injuring eyes and heads.
The Taka Child club planned a February 2 meeting with Mrs. Jh Deardoril at her home but learned it was her birthday anniversary. Members arrived around 10 o'clock, delivering baskets and gifts, with a noon three course dinner. Miss Oliver Brooks attended as a guest and the afternoon featured regular work and the Dixie Hook activity.
Alpha Club members gathered with Mrs. 1. E. Ballaw and Mrs. G. Gielen for an afternoon program on distribution conditions. G. Peettser offered solos joined by a pianist, Mrs. P. Leiss played an instrumental piece, and Mrs. Giwalt received a postal flower before departing to California. Mrs. Arthioe Drake to host next week.
