The annual senior junior high school class play, adapted from George Elliott’s Silas Marner, drew a full house at the opera house Friday night. Hugh Melton starred as Silas with Dorothy Peterson as Dinah, supported by Worth Masters, Mendel Dirnke, Roy Webb, and others. the musical features by Martha Curtis and others received hearty applause.
The News reports concern over litter on Grand Avenue with calls for action to keep private property and streets free of trash. Mayor Hayate highlighted this issue and urged enforcement to stop sweepers from leaving papers in the street and creating a public nuisance.
At a recent meeting, Clivert was re elected superintendent of the Lasper setts. Mrs Anna Hex Miss Paveiri and Miss Dingwee Greenwood were reelected to lower grades. Principal Alin Allison and Mr George Masters may also be re elected. a high school teacher will be sought to replace Miss Uke Nian who resigned two weeks ago. The school reports substantial progress under the current staff.
Rev W C Thompson his wife and three children visited Jasper on Monday night staying with local friends. They are now in Malta Bend Saline County after visiting Neashie to see Mr Thompson’s father who is quite ill.
Oil work on Main Street proceeds with re-oiling today. Clarkson leads the project as crews assemble equipment at Chestnut and Main streets, per the Evening Press.

Rev John T Curtis of Sarconte, once pastor here twenty years ago, arrived in Jasper to perform the marriage of Miss Virginia Hille and Afro BL Coelny at the bride's parents home Wednesday morning. Curtis previously lived here and was connected with the News editor Mr Stewart.
A birthday dinner at John Jickson Snaturday's home celebrated the sixty th anniversary of A. J. Jackson's birth after a long illness. A hand baked cake by Mr. Nebel marked the event. Present were Jackson and wife, John Jackson and family, George Jackson and family, M O Nebel and family, Mr. and Mrs. Avery, and others, totaling about 20 attendees.
Eleven ears of cattle were shipped from Kansas City stockyards on Tuesday. W. E. Stheeler reported seven ears, TO Enel three ears, and Gheorge Aut nl Robert Waite one ear each. Most cattle were large and from Texas stock. They had been fed in the years prior, and the shipment stood out as unusually fat.
Ed Fenner, also spelled Penner in places, travels to Kansas last week and purchases a new tractor for threshing. He remarks to The News that his two threshing units are ready for summer and expects a strong season, with Jasper and Barton counties showing favorable prospects.

Authorities have quarantined the property and expect no spread beyond this site.
