As we go to press word arrives that Mrs File has died. She was the mother of Mrs Thacker, George File and PD. H. File and had suffered ill health for a long time.
Officials report wolves are increasingly common near Jasper with reports of nightly visits to farms. The county court is urged to implement a bounty for wolf scalps to spur farmers in defending livestock and fowls. Farmers are asked to contact the county court to push action.
Dr H B Foster district superintendent will visit this weekend. He will preach Saturday evening at 8 and hold a business session after the service. He will also preach Sunday morning at 11. J W Moore welcomes all to the church services.
J Will Bowers married Miss Jessie Zinn last Thursday evening at the bride parents home 76 miles south of Jan per on the Jeffersighway. Clergyman Roy Bowers of La Russell officiated. The couple, both well regarded in Jasper, plan a residence near Omer Webb's. The will of William I. Deardorff of Jasper has been probated. He leaves $1,500 cash and five shares of Marman & Merchants Bank stock to his wife Ann FE Deardorff, specific sums to children Joseph H Isaac L Lillie May filly Walter S Anna B Spald Homer J, grandchildren of deceased children, and $200 to Baptist Orphans Home St Louis and $200 to Old Folks Home Ironton. Executors Homer J Deerdorff and N H Patterson are named without bond. The will, dated October 8 1917, directs sale of real estate to convert to cash and pro rata adjustments if cash insufficient or excess occur. Carthage Press.
The well known lighting rod agent W. T. Berry from Carthage, a county resident for decades, married Mrs. Mary L. Wilson of Carthage on Tuesday. Berry, long widowed, has a large family. The couple will live in Carthage.
A prowler entered H. H. Sharp’s garage last Saturday around 10 p.m. The intruder started the car and began backing into the alley when Mrs. Sharp, hearing the engine, stepped outside. She thought it was her son and called, but the individual fled the alley before she could identify them.
About 100 subscription statements were mailed from this office last Saturday morning and other subscriptions have expired since that. Our friends will greatly oblige us by prompt attention to this matter.
