Hal Pinnell, who has assisted H. F. Pitts at the Rexall store for the past year, has resigned and left for Philadelphia to pursue business college studies.
The Jasper Commercial Club voted to hire the Carthage road crew under Sam Wheeler to improve the Jefferson Highway segment from the base line north to Jasper. Crews will remove large rocks with a scarifier, then grade and roll the road. residents donate labor and funds, aiming to make Jasper’s end as good as the lower. The notice urges business leaders and citizens to cooperate to advance the community.
Pastor Sam G Keys urges Jasper Circuit members of the M E Church South to support the Missionary Centenary Movement with a dramatic showing. He cites 2,200,000 members aiming for 86 million dollars in five years, detailing varied giving plans from one cent per month to 25 cents weekly, and notes 1.8 million members contributing nothing. The school board met in special session to reorganize. C L Hayzlett was reelected president and F F Follmer became vice president. New teachers named Alma Seidner Grace Cather Lottie Duncan. Senior class includes Beatrice Cook Lora Faskin Edna Davis Elizabeth Dunning Agnea Gresham.
County assessor Perry Grisham purchased the Ale home farm of 160 acres located six miles south of Jasper. The price was not stated but said to be about 125 dollars per acre. Grisham already owned an 80 acre farm a few miles east of the Ale property.
J W Spaid reports the birth of a baby girl to his daughter Mrs Gertie Hicks at Westpoint Illinois. The child was born Thursday April 10. The Hickses now have a son and a daughter. W D McCune of Riverton Kansas visited his brother L T McCune yesterday.
Harry Tabler and Arthur Mevins returned to Jasper after long service in World War I. Tabler, a Second Engineers veteran, lists major French engagements including Verdun, Chateau Thierry, and Meuse Argonne. Mevins, once with the 356th infantry of the 80th division, was wounded in the Argonne and in the arm, now recuperating at Jefferson Barracks. Also notes poultry expert Cosby’s talk, old market quotes, and the death of Mrs. L. W. Stanton in Carthage.

A son named Roy Thomas was born to Postmaster T B Hardaway and his wife on Sunday April 12. He is expected to be a lively addition alongside his two brothers.
