Declamatory Contest at Carterville High School results
Miss Hattie Hyder of Jasper placed fourth in the Jasper County Gold Medal Declamatory Contest at Carterville last Friday night. Her hoarseness cost her top honors, as she scored 100 percent on all points except voice, with only seven points separating her from first. First place earned 91 percent. Hyder earned 80. Many felt she would have won had her voice been normal. Prof. Thomas is considering Springfield’s Southwestern Missouri Declamatory Contest on the 24th if her voice clears. About 40 Jasper attendees traveled to Carterville.

Weather Worsens With Winds Snow and Freeze
A stormy weekend brought high winds and all day gale last week followed by snow and cold. Temperature fell Saturday, a light snow occurred overnight, and a sharp freeze Sunday night left the thermometer near 20 at Monday dawn. Most peaches likely killed.
Pneumonia Claims Son of Herman Bierbeck
The 14 year old son of Herman Bierbeck and his wife died Monday morning from pneumonia after a brief illness. The funeral was held at Magof fin schoolhouse Tuesday afternoon with burial in Magolfin Cemetery.

Jasper Road District seeks special election to create road district
The Jasper Road District led by President McCune and Secretary Hay z lett of the Commercial Club circulate a petition for a special road district election to form a district spanning from the base line to the Barton County line and three miles on either side of the Jefferson Highway. The proposed district would be 4 miles long by 6 miles wide with little opposition.

Jasper Election Results Show Unanimous Council Seats
The Jasper election yielded no suspense with a single ticket. T. H. Hammond won the west ward council seat and C. W. Bedell took the east ward. I. F. Follmer was reelected to the school board and Hammond also won a school board seat. The nine months school term provisions and tax levies of 40 cents and 15 cents for repairs carried.
