C L Spaid and wife with son Harold and Carl and daughter Miss Maude visited John Spaid and wife in Joplin on Sunday. Mr Spaid has not been well this winter but is somewhat improved.
Captain Albert C. Garrison of Joplin seeks the Republican nomination for sheriff of Taaper County. At 46, married with a wife and three children, he lives at 2181 Sargent Avenue. A veteran of three wars, he rose from private to captain and served in the Argonne, Luxemburg, and occupation duties, including leading at the Argonne Cemetery. He emphasizes long experience, law enforcement devotion, and readiness to serve with vigor and judgment.

From the files of the News of April 14, 1901. A baby girl born to Mr and Mrs W H Cather of Jasper. Rev George C Kersten named new pastor. Various locals listed with activities including attendance at a convention program and a party for Rev and Mrs Burnham. A new grocery firm Vokum and Perryman formed. Prices noted for Java coffee 15 cents per pound and flour 1.40 per 100 pounds. Omer Webb bought one sixth of the Bank of Jasper.
The school board met last Friday to reelect Supt. Thomas Mise Vinson Mins Beidner and Mies Cather. No contracts signed and Vinson may not teach next year to finish work at Columbia. Salary talks not settled. board hopes to raise pay within funds. Teachers praised for excellent service and retention hopes noted.
Clarence Rand of Jasper and Mien Helen Williams, living 10 miles northwest of Jasper, married at the M E Church parsonage by Rev. E A Sepp Sunday afternoon about 4 20. Attendants included Misses Hattie and Elsie Rand and Gloria Buzzard, siblings and uncle of the groom. The couple, once schoolmates, plan to reside on East Grand Avenue in the former Lowenstein home. Rand is a mechanic with McCune Tallman Implement dealers.
An April 4 1920 note from C L Purcell of Jasper Maine to Arthur F Drake Idaho Falls requests an enclosed $200 subscription payment for the News. The missive mentions ongoing heavy snow and reports potato prices at 4 50 per cent while apologizing for late remittance and promising another payment soon.
Arthur F. Drake writes to the editor in Kuna on April 4 1920 after a month without The News requesting renewal and noting the paper is a beloved weekly that arrives on Mondays. He signs as C A Cline and emphasizes ad reading accompanies the news.
Leech Wiseman and his family are relocating this week to a new home situated just east of Jasper on the former Bedell place.
Mrs Ralph Gooding of Fort Collins Colorado is visiting. her husband is a grandson of Mrs Henrietta Dodd and a nephew of Mrs J K Schooler Thomas Dodd and Walter S Dodd.
