Industrial Arts Class Builds Grandstand At School

The Industrial Arts class led by Mr Strunk plans a ninety six foot grandstand for the football field with seating for about five hundred in rows of four. El Paso Natural Gas camp helps with half the project and a concrete tennis court and rock wall will follow. A sixteen by sixteen foot room will be added to the shop before season end.

Old timers at Lovington fair and rodeo draw many Lea county settlers

Lovington hosts a fair and rodeo with 305 entrants registering at old timers headquarters. Among them 56 have lived in Lea county since 1900 or earlier, most arriving in homesteading days. Some guests from beyond county lines occasioned friendly confusion, but prizes were awarded for earliest acquaintance and residence, based on in person registration during the event.

Jal Meets Hobbs Fun Showdown Under New Lights

Jal Panthers host Hobbs on September 30 in the season’s first night game under the new lights. Hobbs, a heavier team, has yet to win and aims to break through. Jal arrives with two straight wins after a 13-0 Monument and 12-9 Lovington victories. Hobbs lost 20-7 to Diamond Hill.
