L Burke Jr received appointment to Lea County Registration Advisory Board. Howard B. Rich of Lovington and J N Dunlavey of Hobbs join the group, which met in Hobbs Tuesday afternoon and named Dunlavey chairman. The committee will recommend members to the governor for boards tied to registration and the draft.

Budget Disturbance Nears Settlement With Compromise

J. D. Hannah and Mr. Sawyer of the State Comptroller's Department visited this week and granted a rehearing to reset the city budget. They indicated the budget can be raised at least $800, as the council seeks $1,000 more for bonded debt obligations. an $800 tax levy would raise revenue to $3,200, up from $2,500 last year. Mayor A. H. Adams said the proposal appears likely to pass.

Grade A grade A milk permit efforts in Carlsbad

State sanitation chief Carl Henderson and Dr Puckett inspected Carlsbad dairy facilities along with Eddy Chavez and county officials from Lea and Chavez counties. The move to Grade A milk requires costly certifications and city funding to meet state standards for a permit.

Sam Cooley of the state highway patrol assisted Tuesday to organize a safety patrol formed by Boy Scouts. Sponsored by the Rotary Club and school, the program trains patrol members to supervise traffic before and after school. John Eddy, scout master, will lead safety and emergency coursework.

Registration Day Sees Hundreds Sign Card at Local School

Registration Day at the school ran smoothly with hundreds of men signing cards. Teachers worked long hours to process the turnout efficiently, with minimal waiting and a brief pause for the chicks.

Bicycle Car Collision Near Post Office Injures Rider

A car and a bicycle collided in front of the post office this week. Curtiss Howell suffered cracked ribs a badly bruised leg and a bump on the head while his bicycle was badly damaged. Juanita Ely was frightened but uninjured. The crash was described as unavoidable with no blame assigned.

District Court of Honor for Scouts Held Here

November 4 marks the Boy Scouts district court of honor the first time such an event is held locally about 250 Scouts are expected to attend Troops from Lovington Hobbs Monument Eunice and Jal will be represented at the affair.

New Mexico Electric Service Company set two street lights this week in Jal. One stands near Geo Davis service Station the other at the fire station front on Dr R E Bennett and his mother. The workers spent the weekend in Raton.

Model Airplane Contest Set for Sunday Afternoon

The first division of the toy airplane contest will be staged Sunday afternoon on the old football field across from the Boy Scout hut. Entrants from many boys have prepared entries after two postponements and the public is invited to watch the 1950 aviators fly their model planes.

Country Club Firemen Dance Opens Fall Season

The Volunteer Fire Department hosts a barn dance Saturday night at the Ja! Country Club. It is the first dance of the fall season and the first in the new clubhouse recently moved onto the grounds. Firemen sell tickets to raise funds for slickers.
