Van Zandt Hurf In One of Six Weekend Wrecks

In one of six automobile accidents this weekend Mr Van Zandt received treatment for scalp wounds and lacerations. Another car belonged to Richard Ikinger of the Texaco Camp and tipped at the railroad crossing loop. Ernest Butler also overturned. Names of the other three drivers were not learned.

Jal Rotary Club hosted its quarterly ladies night presided by H F Steen aka Hay Hizer. Rotary singing opened the program followed by a women led quiz battle of the sexes won by the ladies. New member K B Walker was welcomed and briefed on Rotary work by Rev. G L Ver.

Youth Activity Drive Opens as Rotary Plans Budget

The Jal Youth Activity Fund drive begins with pledge books circulated by Rotary Club members and supporters of the cooperative program. A $400 budget is set for this year while last year’s expenditures totaled $440.29 from $448.50 collected, covering registration, lighting, carpentry, trucking, building, area scout work, and materials with receipts issued to contributors.

Mystery in the Library to grace Jal High School stage

Jal High School seniors present Mystery in the Library this Saturday with a 2:00 pm matinee for children and a 7:45 pm adult performance. Tickets cost 15 cents for children 25 cents for students and 35 cents for adults in the school auditorium.

Dry Land Scouts Face Flood on Houston Trip

Five Boy Scouts led by Scoutmaster John Eddy returned from Houston with flood stories from East Texas. They named members Bob Bart Pender Billy Floyd Humphries David and Clifford Boyd Weldon Baird. The route home was cut by flooding forcing a 200 mile detour and an extra day travel. They also cruised off Galveston and steered a 40 foot boat during the trip.

Burke's Grandfather Dies in Oklahoma

J. L. Burke traveled to Hobart Oklahoma after being summoned by the death of his grandfather Dr Burke. He then returned through Santa Fe where he conducted school business as superintendent.

Boy Injured In Bleacher Fall

Travis Hicks fell from the bleachers during an exciting part of the football game last week and was reported to be recovering from an elbow injury. Mrs. M. A. Bagwell of Midland and Nyta Ree Chitwood of Jal were here for a short visit Friday.

Thanksgiving Union Service Draws Big Crowd

A large crowd attended Sunday night union services at the First Baptist Church. Rev. G. L. Keever of the First Methodist Church delivered the sermon. BYPU and Epworth League also held services with a musical program. Duets by Wilma Rhea Stewart and Iva Lee Calley, and Betty Jo Robinson with Miss Sloan, plus a violin solo by Frank Franchini. Rev. W. E. Hollis spoke seven minutes. Cocoa and cookies were served at the close.

Allen Scott Receives Clinic Care After Main Street Fall

Allen Scott was treated at a local clinic this week after injuries from a fall in a moving car on Main Street. He was not seriously hurt.
