Jal Panthers defeated Lovington Wildcats 39-0 as hosts dominated on both sides. Jal unleashed a powerful line, stifling Lovington to eight yards on first string and limited gains against the second string.

Jal led Lovington early as Young returned kicks and broke loose for 40 and a touchdown. Pharr and Jeter contributed in the opening stanza while Jal failed on the extra point and kicked off out of bounds. The drive featured a 60 yard punt to the Jal 40 and a 15 yard run by Young on a strong off tackle run.

Orville Green III Seriously ill after emergency appendectomy

Orville Green III, 23, was reported seriously ill in Hobbs after an emergency appendicitis operation Saturday. His father W. J. Green said pneumonia developed on Tuesday following the infected appendix surgery.

Solley Dies In Fatal Wreck Near Eunice

Felix Newton Solley 30 of Jal died instantly when his car collided head on with another on the Jal Eunice highway. Harry Turpin 30 of Denver City Texas was seriously injured with severe head cuts needing 47 stitches. Billy Kerby also of Denver City suffered lesser injuries. Solley is survived by a wife and five children in Jal and his parents in DeLeon Texas, with two sisters.

Henthorn Hurt After Hunting Trip Return Tales

E A Henthorn was treated at Community Hospital for a right hand injury with a thumb knocked out of place. In Jal, Leon Long Charlie Jackson and son Elbin returned from a weekend hunting trip in the Mackinhind Mountains with Charlie as the luck hunter, bringing back a 6 point deer.

Finance Committee To Meet In Jal For Youth Program

A group of local men will meet Monday at 7 p m at the school to coordinate Boy and Girl Scout and playground supervision into a single program. Superintendent J L Burke announced the meeting urging attendance to plan financial details and avoid multiple drives.

Coronado Fete Sponsorship Considered at Rotary Club

Rotary Club guests Miss Hurd Mike Donnely and Willie Weir of Hobbs spoke on the Coronado Cuatro Centenary to be celebrated across New Mexico in 1940. Donnely urged school sponsorship while Weir announced two prizes from New Mexico Electric Service for Jal programs. George Davis applauded school sports for fair play and fellowship.

Basketball Schedule Partly Arranged For Winter Games

With football nearing end the basketball schedule through February 24 is set. Home games include Prairie View December 8 Artesia December 16 Hobbs December 20 Wink January 9 Carlsbad January 12 Dexter January 19 Wink January 30 Carlsbad February 6 Hobbs February 10 Lovington February 17 and a valley institute road trip February 23 24. A school ground accident left Mr and Mrs Crews daughter with a badly bruised side.

Merchants Association Proposed for Local Credit Exchange

J L Cooper urged local merchants to form a Merchants Association to facilitate credit exchange and collections. He said the group would aid both debtors and creditors and curb over buying on credit by organizing a meeting for early discussion. He asked interested merchants to contact him.

Impressive Turnout for Speaker Club Inaugural Banquet

The Speaker Club held its second meeting with 41 attendees for a banquet and speeches. Toastmaster H D Murray set a charming tone. J L Burke spoke on speech value, H F Steen entertained, and Mrs J D McClintock discussed speech art. Burl Howell addressed the State of New Mexico. Plans called for meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays each month.

Earl Wrenn Gored by Mad Cow Near Post Ranch

Earl Wrenn was gored through the foot by a cow described as mad or unhappy. He received treatment at the Community Hospital for a serious foot wound. Wrenn lives at the Post ranch east of town. Henry Chance returned Wednesday from Hot Springs.
