On a busy Saturday Raton fell to the Panthrs 1500 to 0 affecting State championship chances. Supporters backed a $1,000 underwrite for Jalor, while locals anticipate Roswell Carlybad and Roswell Las Cruces outcomes.

Red Cross Drive to Open with Local Campaign

The Jal Red Cross drive opens Monday led by Mrs Peter Bish to solicit pledges across camps. The Roll Call runs November 13 to 25, with 50 cents to the National Red Cross and the rest kept locally for Jal needs. Minimum membership is $1. no maximum.

Grade School Set to Launch Safety Drive

The fifth annual accident prevention campaign by the National Safety Council aims to cut home and farm deaths and injuries. Starting November 13, grade school pupils will act as a national youth army of 10 million to inspect homes, aided by Red Cross check lists.

The final wooden sidewalk was removed this week as the Grill Cafe and Cabana Beauty Shop gained concrete sidewalks in front of their storefronts. A city ordinance had condemned all wooden sidewalks as fire hazards. Mrs E. P. O'Brien has been ill.

Four Workers Injured In Onsite Accidents This Week

R B Cunningham had his right ring finger crushed when pipe fell on it. M Mattison mashed his right index finger under a mortar box. Herbert Eason of State Construction Company injured his right big toe after pipe contact. J E Mosley of State Highway Department sprayed his shoulder smashing a rock with a sledge hammer.

Dinwiddie Burned By Gasoline At Local Garage

W. M. Dinwiddie suffered severe burns when gasoline soaked clothing caught fire at the H. S. Waver Garage. A man in the shop dropped a match into a gasoline bucket, causing a flare up that burned both arms. Lon McNeil has been released from the hospital after a prior explosion injury. Charley Webster remains hospitalized but is improving after catching fire while lighting a fire.

Burglars Fail to Take Anything at City Service Station

Report of a break in at City Service Station shows burglars entered through a door but left without stealing any items. Also notes a baby named Sandra Vickey born to Mr and Mrs Harry Eaves of Halliburton, and travels of Mona Bess Bradford and Mr and Mrs Dick Smalley relocating to Monahans.

Raton拒insists on $1500 guarantee to play Jal Panthers

Raton officials refuse to meet a $1000 bid for a football game with Jal Panthers, demanding $1500 cash plus expenses before kickoff. Jal businessmen underwrote $1000, led by Mayor H H McAllister, but the plan collapsed as the deal proved too high for New Mexico football circles. The Panthers, aiming to finish the regular season undefeated, face Lovington next and Hot Springs on November 29.

Student Reporter Debuts With Four-Page First Issue

The Student Reporter, an independent student newspaper by Jiggs Barron and peers, released its first issue this week. It is four pages long with four columns per page and earns credit for its presentation.

Richmond Buys Jal Area Lease

Richmond Drilling Company announced purchase of the east half of the southwest quarter of section 2 25s 37e. J L Burke was in Lovington on school business. Mrs I D Hoke and Mr and Mrs Bill Hollis will entertain the Jal Bridge Club Monday night. Mr and Mrs Frank Goodner and Mr and Mrs Big Collum went deer hunting Sunday but did not bag a buck.

City Council approves plan to rewrite city ordinances removing meaningless parts. A November 20 meeting is set for councilmen to submit changes while mayor and council study weak points.
