Bridge Club to Meet at Mrs Smalley Home

Jar Bridge Club will meet next week at the home of Mrs Dick Smalley. The gathering shifts from its regular night to Tuesday evening. Mrs W I Gross, mother of Mrs J L Burke, has been visiting here and her home is in Amarillo.

Kentucky Is Racing Film at Rex Theatre

Loretta Young and Richard Greene lead in Kentucky a film featuring Walter Brennan as a strong supporting actor. The plot includes scenes of the Kentucky Derby shown within the movie. Derby day is noted as Saturday with racing imagery central to the film. Other brief items note visits by Mrs. W F Sapp and Tommie Sullivan with local residents.

Brotherhood Meeting Reports Good Attendance

Brotherhood met Monday night in regular session. The group discussed general topics with current events as the focus of discussion. A good attendance was reported.

Methodist youth league formed across Jal Eunice Hobbs Tatum

The greatest young peoples meeting in the church formed a county wide Young People League. Officers Dwight Lowe Hobbs president Tommy Meisenheimer Eunice vice president Mildred Butler Jal secretary. Next Hobbs meeting July 30. A ten day Vacation Bible School for all ages planned in June with start time 9 am and later date announced.

Our Youngs People Assembly Meeting in Sacramento Mountains

Our Youngs People Assembly in the Sacramento mountains meets June 11. If all children and youth attend these assemblies, juvenile problems could be reduced. Sunday School 9:45, Preaching 10:05 and 7:30. Epworth League 6:30, Missionary Society Monday p m. Cub Scouts Tuesday 3:15. Jal Civic Club Tuesday 7:30. Choir practice and Prayer Service Wednesday 7:30. Come to Sunday School and Church services next Sunday.

Local residents plan travel and church activities this week

Bill Wolford leaves for Reno to visit friends. Frank and Bill Butler depart for Ruidosa to plan tourist cabins and a private retreat. Rev. W. H. Norris goes to Oklahoma City for the Southern Baptist Convention. W. M. S. hears a World Outlook report on mission dollars, with a round table and business meeting attended by fourteen women and new member Mrs. Forest Rumbough.

Mrs Fleming Succumbs After Long Life of Faith

Mrs Rachael Bricker Fleming died peacefully Saturday April 29 1939 at age 84 years seven months and ten days. Born September 19 1854 in Hillsdale Indiana she had lived with her niece Mrs W R Bond in Roswell for 28 years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev T B Titus at First Christian Church Roswell with Talmadge Funeral Home in charge. She leaves Mrs W R Bond of Jal and two grandchildren Mrs Frank McDaniel of Roswell and Mrs Neal Simpson of Champaign Illinois.

Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Lasater announce their marriage secretly in February. The bride was Miss Ann Hall, daughter of Mrs. C. C. Hall. They plan to reside in the El Paso Camp where Lasater works.

Meadow mother visits daughter for Band Mother's play

Mrs. E. A. Short of Meadow visited her daughter Mrs. Jimmie Gammill and enjoyed the Band Mother's production entitled The Street Called Sham.
