Rotary Club met at the Methodist Church for a regular luncheon. Rev G L Keever gave a life sketch and preaching background. Teacher Salary Delayed Due to Fund Shortage

J. L. Burke Jr. travels to Santa Fe this week to confer with state school officials and raise funds to cover this month’s teachers salaries. The school fund lacks enough money to pay last month’s salaries.

J L Burke former school superintendent told the Ker mit Lions Club luncheon that an undeclared war exists between the United States and Germany, fought with ideas rather than troops. He warned democracy can fail if its believers do not uphold it and cited a German boy's letter praising Hitler. A Jal Choral Club quintet sang at the event.

Speakers Hear of Indians, Youth And Privileges

Speakers in a regular Speakers Club meeting at the Methodist Church with 26 members heard talks on Victims of Our Privileges, the Inca Indians and How Fair American Youth. The session closed with Oh Fair Now and plans for a May 9 meeting.

Bergolafsky Family Visits Wichita Falls

Henry Bergolafsky returned this week from Wichita Falls where he visited his mother and rested for a month. His father then left for Wichita Falls for a short visit alongside him.

Postmaster Appointments Confirmed for Bennett and Bennett Areas

Miss Helen Childers received permanent appointment as postmaster after serving as acting postmaster and passing examinations. Her commission comes from President Roosevelt under the new law. Also Mrs. Callie Marshall of Bennett was appointed postmaster of a fourth class Bennett post office.

Two Jal Men Are Treated For Injuries

C. V. Cryer of Jal sustained chest injuries when he fell from a scaffold at the El Paso Natural Gas Company Gasoline Plant. He was unconscious but recovered and discharged from a Kermit hospital. E. B. Prescott of Jal fractured his jaw after being struck by a pole while booming down a gun pole. He received first aid at Kermit hospital and was later sent to El Paso for a specialist.

Davis Phillips Couple Visit in Jal New Mexico

Mr and Mrs Davis Phillips of Goldsmith Phillips Camp visited in Jal New Mexico Sunday. Jackie Corley Helen Carson and Treva Nel Scott spent last weekend at the Dublin Ranch with Norma Joyce Crews and all report a happy time.

Jal Queen To Be Chosen For Air Fest

Thirteen girls enter the Rex Theatre sponsored Cowgirl Queen contest to represent Jal and Hobbs at the Airmail Inauguration Celebration on May 11. Jal Cowgirls perform May 8 at the Rex Theatre. the Hobbs finals May 11 determine the Queen of the Frontiersmen with a prize package including an airplane ride, shopping tour, meals, and a theater outing.

Norma Fay Baird Returns Home After Illness

Norma Fay Baird returned home on Wednesday from Big Spring where she recovered from spinal meningitis after several days of critical illness. She remains very weak and will take several weeks to regain strength. The Jal community rejoices at her return and her status as a favored local child.

The Masonic Club met Wednesday night at Jal High School to complete its organization. Officers elected will be announced in next week's paper.

Band Members Attend Banquet For Gala Night

All band members plan a gala night Saturday with a banquet in their honor hosted by band mothers. An entertaining program is arranged and a party following the banquet is being planned.
