Uniforms Arrive for Jal High Band in Navy and Royal Colors
New navy blue uniforms trimmed in royal blue and yellow arrive for the Jal High Band after a year long campaign. Uniforms feature military styling with shoulder braids high collars and yellow lapels. High hats with plumes complete the look and a Panther emblem appears on the left arm. Funds from merchants friends and band mothers financed the purchase through events. A parade is planned.

El Paso men completed a two week first aid training course and will take examinations next week. Jack Stricklin and Harry Kazee will administer the exam to 81 graduates, representing 10 percent participation for El Paso Camp.

Boys Arrested to Face Judge for Saddle Theft
Three young boys were arrested after a saddle was stolen from Ralph Baird on Saturday. Deputies say the trio will be brought before the juvenile court in Lovington. One boy has prior petty theft charges, the others are first offenders.

Foundation Form For Church Laid
The Baptist church under construction shows forms in place as the foundation nears completion. Rev W H Norris predicts the foundation will be laid within a week. Civic Club Discusses County Delinquency Plan
A Jal Civic Club meeting heard Hobbs leaders outline a five point plan to curb juvenile delinquency in Lea County. Charles L Mills cited education links and the Hobbs Lions Club effort while Johnnie Connell was named to a county wide committee to address delinquency. Continued on page 2.

Gas Company Plans To Work On Improvements
C C Tucker manager of Lea County Gas Company and Chee sey Stewart from Ysleta visited Wednesday to plan system improvements. Mains will be buried deeper and new lines laid in summer. Tucker praised Jal's progress and said the town has improved. The company will cooperate in street work and now serves 235 homes, up from 65. Mrs Dick Hadley hosted her Sunday School class party with games and refreshments.

Joe Cooper Recalls Youth In Jal Area
Joe Cooper, resident ten miles north of Jal, recalls moving to Lea County in 1910 with parents James M. and wife and brothers. The family hauled water from the west wells now Jal, built a house and a well, and endured rough days that shaped his childhood memories.

Scouts Work On House Plans
Boy Scouts met at city hall for their regular weekly session with twelve boys present. They are pursuing first aid tests, received a $17 donation to their building fund, and plan to build a cabin on two lots north of town this summer. Thieves Steal Mercury From Gas Meters in Jal Area
A gang stole mercury worth about 1500 dollars from gas meters on wells in Jal and surrounding fields this week. About 70 meters in the county have been reported drained, with seven meters in the Jal area emptied. Mercury, valued at 1.65 a pound, regulates meters, and each meter holds ten to sixteen pounds. Winkler County officers are also investigating mercury thefts from meters in the Kermit field Sunday night.

Jal will host a major track meet this April gathering New Mexico schools. Coaches and boys work to prepare the track while principal K B Walker notes ribbons and trophies are ordered and the Jal band will appear in new uniforms.

New Water Well Drilling Near Park Edges City Inflow
A new water well for the city is 600 feet north of the park and slated to finish in about two weeks. This week a hard bed rock unexpectedly struck the bore, but officials hope the well will improve the current water supply.
State Inspector Visits Jal Schools
State Inspector Bill Lufkin of the Department of Vocational Education in Santa Fe visited Jal Schools on Wednesday and Thursday. He spent most of his time in the shop advising with the supervisor and making recommendations. Mr and Mrs John Connell traveled to Kermit on business Thursday.
