Post office Has Had Many Moves In Jal History
The Jal post office began as a six mile east location then moved after 1910 when Co W Justis and locals secured a post office. Justis, former store owner, served as postmaster carrying mail by horse to Kermit. mail service was free for three months. In 1914 Justis became U S land commissioner, Mrs Justis served until 1923. In 1923 J A Stuart was appointed.

Modern School Grows From Shanty Near Hubbs Water Works
The first Jal school started in a two room frame building perched on a hill opposite the Hubbs Justis water works along highway 18. It closed for four years before 1927 when oil was discovered and Miss Ora Mae Medlin taught. In 1928 the school moved to its present site, added a room, and hired two more teachers.

An old settlers reunion with Jal string musicians runs concurrently at City Hall, also 9 p m. Admission is 1 50 and profits from drink concessions may go to the Jal High band.
