Two More Days Remain To Register

Local election registration ends Monday prompting voters to register at the county clerk in Lovington. Officials will be at the post office Saturday and Monday for late registrations in the final round. About 800 registered locally while county tallies show 2,000 countywide with 80 percent Democrats and 20 percent Republicans. Voters must select party preferences on their cards to vote in primaries.

Welfare Man Arrives Soon to Lead Lea County Juveiles

J O Walton head of the Lea County juvenile committee announces the selection of John W Tramburg 32 probation officer in Washington DC to take over the newly created Lea County post. State welfare chief Miss Anna L Bosch traveled to Washington to interview Tramburg and the probate judge and recommended him highly. Several New Mexico applicants failed to meet federal and state requirements.

New Power Source Starts Giving Current

The popping of Jal’s big engine supplying electric power has stopped as the Skelly power plant began feeding motors and lights. Officials credit growth causing the outage, say the new system will handle future growth, with a few bugs remaining to be worked out but it’s already operating well.

Phillips Considers Gas Plant on Woolworth Lease Near Jal

Reports indicate Phillips exploring a modern casing head gasoline plant northeast of Jal on the Woolworth lease. A camp and water system would be built. a payroll of about 25 men would run operations and up to 100 workers would be needed for construction if approved.
