El Paso Gas Tops New Mexico Pipeline Valuations

El Paso Natural Gas Company, based near Jal, led New Mexico pipeline valuations in 1939, totaling 2 353 945 dollars, up 25 000 from 1938 and accounting for over a quarter of the state’s 21 pipeline valuations totaling 8 259 367 dollars. Lea County Gas Company serving Jar saw its evaluation fall from 72 900 to 39 077 dollars.

Butane Stabilizing Plant Completed in El Paso

The El Paso Natural Gas Company completed a commercial butane stabilizing plant now in operation. After weeks of rapid work on the structure it is finished and ready to supply butane to the Shell Pipeline Company and for general commercial uses in the territory, according to L A Baird superintendent of the division.

The Harper Apartments were completely remodeled and refinished this week. W. L. Harper, owner, announced. The apartments are now fully air conditioned with an individual unit for each apartment.

Nine year old Prichard resident suffers a deep cut after stepping on broken jug while wading in local water. He received several stitches at the local hospital and remains under treatment.

G O Lambert Suffered Severe Burns This Week

G O Lambert received a severe burn to his arm and hand and was treated at a local hospital this week. The school board meeting scheduled for Wednesday night was postponed due to lack of a full quorum. Mrs Lolly Chappelle Smith hosted two sisters for a Sunday chicken dinner.

Pipeline Job Starts Runs S F Fair

The El Paso Natural Gas Company began a twenty two mile sixteen inch loop line from Jal toward the Pecos River with forty five men employed on the project. The crew camps 42 miles from Jal and will work toward Jal for a six week period.

Traffic Through Port Sets Low Passenger Average

A 24 hour test at the New Mexico port of entry reports 446 passengers in 228 vehicles from 365 passengers in 176 cars and 51 trucks with 78 passengers plus one tractor trailer. State totals show 4,131 vehicles and 10,820 passengers entering daily across 22 stations. Texas leads with 1,648 vehicles and 33,794 passengers.

Local firemen anticipate arrival of a new fire truck from Denver within about thirty days. No recent word has been heard on progress, but optimism remains that the apparatus will reach the department soon.

Girl Scouts Expect Charter To Arrive Soon

The Girl Scouts meet weekly at City Hall and study tender foot tests to earn badges. Fifteen girls have paid dues since organization six weeks ago. Captain Mrs. Dick Hadley announced the charter and readiness to pass tests with the first test set for July 27.

Marriage Starts On Wrong Foot In Roswell Ceremony

Mr. and Mrs. Pete Arpin married after two failed starts. They began in Leviington but couldn't obtain a license, then went to Roswell where they succeeded. The bride, formerly Miss Rena Walters, bought shoes misfitting one foot, yet the couple declared their first steps were well shod. The groom works for El Paso Natural Gas Company.

Main Street Paving Underway in Jal

Paving of Jal’s lower main street began Wednesday with engineer George M. Cowan noting rapid progress once started. A single twenty two foot center will be paved joining the new road from the El Paso Camp, supervised by contractor W C McDaniels of Santa Fe.

Oil Activity Holds Its Pace With 19 Rigs

A record week for Lea County in the week ended July 8 reports 19 rigs active with 23 new locations pending details. In Jal area six completions occurred while locations from the prior week were drilled. Drilling continues at Gulf No. 2 Carr and Culberson Irwin No 1 Martin with multiple drill sites specified by section and coordinates.

450 Register On Voting Forms

A report notes 450 Jal residents registered under a new law requiring voters to re register with precinct committees. Voters must complete a sworn form prescribed by the state law. registration is permanent and urged for all eligible to qualify.

Boy Breaks Collar Bone At Play

Bill Jackson about ten broke his left collar bone while playing with friends this week. He received treatment at the local hospital. Margaret Massey traveled to Fort Worth over the weekend to visit her parents and sisters. Tom Sullivan was in Jal over the weekend and now lives in Artesia.
