Butane Truck Fire Near Kermit Jal Area
A butane truck caught fire Monday December 6 three and a half miles south on Kermittal highway after a faulty engine. Driver Bill Cave tried to extinguish it but the blaze could not be stopped and departments from Jal and Kermit allowed it to burn due to explosion risk. Spectators and vehicles were halted about a half mile away as flames were visible for miles.

Montgomeries in Hobbs Car Crash Involving Drunk Driver
Last Saturday night in Hobbs Mrs. Frank Montgomery and her daughter Helen were riding in a car that was sideswiped by a drunken driver. Mrs. Montgomery escaped injury while Helen sustained light cuts and bruises after being thrown toward a car mirror. The other driver tested positive for drinking.
State Teachers Convention Held in Albuquerque

California Visitors Return From West Coast Trip
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Speer and Mrs. Walter Pendleton returned from California where they visited their sons Bill Speer and John Pendleton and Leslie Smith. The three lab boys serve in the Marine Corps in San Diego. Bill was hospitalized for knee trouble from a 1945 football injury and may receive a medical discharge. Pendleton visited John and Leslie at the rifle range during their one hour visiting periods. On Sunday she shared a picnic lunch with them as they were off duty.
