The El Paso Natural Gas Company and Phillips Company agreed to merge plans for a large gasoline plant. The combined project will be a 1.5 million dollar facility built near both sites with work to start immediately. The two firms had previously pursued separate plants and even bought gravel for one site.
Jal Panthers honor the State champions with a banquet in Hobbs. Lieutenant Governor Jim Murray and Mayor H H McAllister will speak as cocaptains T C Young and Pansy Jeter address the gathering. Toastmaster Kendall Houston leads the program with a large list of students and coaches attending.
Rotary Club Tuesday noon program featured Dr Boyd Nibling in charge and accordion music by Frank Franchine and Dolores Walden. J L Burke read a greeting from Plovdiv Bulgaria. The club will give candy to each child at the free Rex Theatre matinee Friday. Attendance ranking shows a 94.59 score, third in district. Porkey Meyers cut his ear on a barbed wire fence but recovered. Vion Ray Brown returned from Portales for holidays. Lou Catshill heads to Wichita Falls for Christmas with Miss Mickey Wilson.
T. L. Davis spoke with his brother Archie who had been in Athens with the New Orleans Oil Company. Archie arrived in New York safely aboard the Ella and will spend Christmas in Hobbs with their mother.
The city hall dance run by band mothers netted 36 dollars for the general band fund. The event was lively and a repeat is planned for the following Friday with the same charge and purpose. Musicians donate the music, and organizers hint at a possible band trip funded by the proceeds.
A display features select pieces from the man ual training department including tables book stands and hollow bowls crafted by high school students. G B Strunk notes the department benefited from the new building and machines this year. John D Gaither and Mona Bess Bradford obtained a marriage license from Winkler County clerk at Kermit Wednesday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Brooks Brininstool plan Christmas holidays in Carlsbad with relatives. All school Christmas trees to be held Friday.
Mayor H McAllister says firemen must raise 225 dollars quickly or risk losing a 3000 dollar blanket insurance policy. John Mullins of Bob Daniels Insurance met with town officials to discuss options as state funding dips due to more towns forming fire departments. Plan to hold events after the new year to cover costs. The policy covers all volunteers who may fight fires in town.
Rumors swirl about a large carbon black plant to be built near Jal but no firm details are available.
