Husband of Jal Native Killed in Texas Train Collision

Clifford Lewis, husband of former Jal resident Lucille Fails, was killed when his car struck a train near Fort Worth Texas. He was buried at Portales. Mrs. Lewis, formerly Miss Lucille Fails of the El Paso Natural Gas camp near Jal, lived there for several years. He leaves his wife and one child.

Fred Wray of Jal High School had a serious operation in a Hobbs hospital last Wednesday. His condition improved and he is expected to return home within ten days.

Workman Injured On Hazeltine Building

Mr. Bill Brown, a construction worker on the new Hazeltine machine shop building, was injured when a scaffold broke and a rock fell. He was taken to Community Hospital with superficial cuts and bruises to the head face and arms and was reported to be doing well.

Mrs John Kennedy, a graduate nurse, returned from Claremore Oklahoma after weeks at the Mayberry Clinic learning modern colon irrigation methods. She has installed the Mayberry irrigation device in her home and offers care for colon disturbances.

High School Gym Hosts Successful Weeknight Game Tournament

A Friday night event at the High School Gym raised funds for the school band. Prizes went to top players in contract and auction bridge, Forty-Two, and Chinker-Cheek events. George Davis won the Bard quilt but donated it back for band auction. Mrs. Peter Bish bought it at auction.

Infant son of Mr and Mrs Benson returns home from hospital

The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. V. F. Benson was discharged from a Kermit hospital and returned to his home in the El Paso Natural Gas camp after treatment for pneumonia.

Jal Civic Club Sponsors Christmas Program

The Jal Civic Club plans a Christmas program to fund electric stringers, trees, and town decorations. Citizens are urged to contribute through John Connell, head of the project, to dress up Jal for the season. The club also oversees Christmas Tuberculosis stamps distribution to raise funds for fighting TB nationwide.

Helen Murray Stars In College Hockey Match

In Denton Texas Miss Helen Murray of Jal led the Texas State College for Women hockey lineup in a pre Thanksgiving clash between Texas and A and M. A and M won as Murray, a sophomore physical education student, helped her team contend in the season finale.

At a Jal City Council meeting on December 5, ordinance 28 required all city employees handling food and drink to pass physical examinations to obtain health certificates.

Fireworks Prohibited By City Council

City ordinances ban fireworks sale within Jal limits with a 25.00 fine. Anyone setting off fireworks in the business district faces a 96.96 fine. Regulations will be strictly enforced.
