Birdmen Organize Bay Club Cub Plane

A Jal flying club formed this week with eight interested members, who pooled funds to buy Malcolm Madera's Cub as their first official act. Members include H. F. Steen, Roger Van Bremer, Jack Thornton, Junior Scott, Bill Collum, Mrs Collum, Bobby Wentworth, and Elbert Medlin of Kermit. Steen Bremer and Thornton have soloed and await the inspector for private licenses. Instructor is Frank Hines of Wink.

Warren of Eastland are among out-of-town guests for the event, held on the first and third Sundays each month. The singing starts at 2 p.m. and a large crowd is expected.

Hunters Ready For Dove Season To Open Friday

District game warden warns hunters to carry licenses as dove season opens Friday in Texas south of the area. He notes stricter enforcement for quail and warns fines for unlicensed hunting. The opening date is September 15.

Rotary Luncheon Discusses War Prospects

Rotary Club members gathered for their regular luncheon to discuss the foreign situation and the possibility of war. Only routine business was handled. Douglas Norfleet is recovering well after a serious lung operation. Saturday, Mr and Mrs J M Whitworth left for a vacation to Dallas Georgia. While away, Morris Whitworth is substituting at Acme Lumber. FOR RENT: Two houses near the school suitable for teachers. Randy Johnston and Mrs Walter Pendleton with her mother Mrs Della Beckett left for Las Cruces to be with Mrs Dick Eden who is seriously ill. Mrs Eden, 70, fell and broke her arm and fractured her hip and is not expected to live. Max Schofield returned from a two week vacation in Houston.

Teachers Prepare to Register 600 Students in Jal

In Jal, all area teachers plan to assist this weekend with student registration ahead of the new school year. About 600 pupils are expected, including 150 in high school. Most teachers are assigned, with many returning. the sixth grade instructor is still to be named.

More Popular Music For Band In The High School

The High School Band under director R L Meyers is practicing daily and plans to play more popular music this year. A large order of new music is expected to arrive before school starts to give the band a new swing and its best season yet.

South Road Paving Repaired Across Texas Line
