Guthrie Killed in Wickett Car Wreck
Whitey Guthrie, a well known Lea County resident, died Tuesday night in a collision near Wickett between his car and a pipe truck. Funeral services will be held Saturday in Kingfisher Oklahoma, with the body sent from Monahans where Walter Harwell Funeral Home handles arrangements. Mrs Guthrie serves as Lea County Superintendent. a State Tax Commission meeting in Santa Fe scheduled for this week was canceled due to his death.

Jal's winning tennis team gained two new practice courts this week with completed work on the grounds and backstops. Filler material for the retaining wall came from broken bricks from last year's building addition and rocks found on the grounds. One court is concrete and the other asphalt, offering two common playing surfaces. New netting and pipe standards were installed for the backstop.
