A Civic Club committee appointed by acting president Peter Bish outlined plans for Trade Days in Jal next weekend. Members Geo Davis Irving Faverman and Stuart Long will contact local merchants to cooperate and use The Flare to invite neighboring towns to shop during the event. If successful, the event may become a recurring last weekend monthly affair.

23 Students Make Senior High Honor Roll
Twenty three students from the senior high, including three with straight A grades, are named on the honor roll for the fifth six weeks term. Arthur Toby led Jal Roping Club action with a first in No 1 and a third in No 2. Jewel Owen was runner up in the opener while Rock Ward placed third. New Water Well Ties Into City System Incomplete

Jal Captures County Tennis Meet for 3rd Time
Jal repeated as county tennis champion winning 29 to 5 over Hobbs amid a dust storm. Final match between Jeter and his opponent was postponed then concluded with Jeter securing the title as Coach Walker praised sportsmanship. Teams head to district Saturday at Roswell.

Troop To Be Organized For Girls Scout Work
Rev. C. Y. Butler announced a new Girl Scouts troop will be formed to provide outdoor life and citizenship training. Mrs. Dick Hadley agreed to be captain, a role comparable to a Boy Scoutmaster. A ladies committee will be chosen next week after Civic Club plans. A meeting of interested girls and women will be held soon.

Anti Delinquent Program Led By Lea County Committee
Lea County advisory committee in Hobbs outlined a five point plan to curb juvenile delinquency. John Connell represented Jal on the panel. Fire Damages Large East Jal House
A major fire struck one of East Jal’s largest houses Monday night the dwelling owned by Tommie Love. A passer by discovered the blaze and by arrival of firemen it had built headway. Firemen used two tanks of water before extinguishing the flames. Mrs. Gus Kendricks is visiting El Paso this week.

Park Adds 1000 Cannas Planted By Civic Club
A Civic Club committee completed work in the park planting about 1000 canna bulbs. City park supervisor Brook Brininstoo oversaw the planting at the Continental Camp location. All bulbs were donated by Continental officials. Fred Fleming traveled to El Paso for a two week work assignment, with a replacement sent from El Paso.
