Why the Little Church Around the Corner
In New York City the Church of the Transfiguration on Twenty ninth Street near Fifth Avenue earned its famous nickname after actor George Holland died in 1870. Joseph Jefferson sought funeral arrangements at the church and was accompanied by one of Holland’s orphaned sons, prompting the anecdote behind the church’s popular moniker.
