Poison for weevil believed found
Washington reports a new poison to kill the boll weevil calcium arsenate is now being tested by the bureau of entomology of the agriculture department. It must be applied to cotton while morning dew remains on foliage so weevils drink the toxin. The planters are showing interest as trials reduce infection and additional stations will be opened across the belt. The boll weevil, native to Mexico, reached the United States in 1862 near Brownsville Texas and has since spread through the cotton belt.
