Jackson Rifles Now Regulars
The Jackson Rifles were tested by a U S Army physician in Macon and declared fit. The Second regiment, with 1172 enlisted and 58 officers, was mustered in and becomes part of Uncle Sam's fighting force for six years total. They drill daily, have typhoid and smallpox vaccinations, and are expected to be sent to the border by July 10.

Qualifications for Those Who Would Be Soldiers
Recruits nationwide are sought to fill the national guard to full army strength. Requirements mirror the regular army: ages 18 to 36, parental consent if under 18, heights from 5 ft 4 in to 6 ft 2 in for infantry and artillery, 5 ft 4 in to 5 ft 10 in for cavalry, weights between 120 and 190 pounds, cavalrymen under 165 pounds, ability to read write and speak English, sound health, no flat feet bad teeth bunions or hammered toes. Eyesight tests require reading one fourth inch letters at twenty feet with one eye closed. Applicants must be American citizens or have first papers if foreign born.

Cotton acreage shows rise from last year

Negro farmers build dipping vats in Brooks county

Mrs. C G Lummus died at Baptist hospital in Atlanta following an appendicitis operation. She was 26 and survived by husband mother Sallie Fincher and sisters Love Mote and Pruitt of Locust Grove. Funeral held at Macedonia Church with Dr. Robert VanDeventer presiding. Interment Macedonia cemetery.
