On a Sunday a barrel of bridge paint exploded after a youth, Earl Hope, dropped a lighted match into it. The blast knocked him fifteen feet and cut a deep gash above the eye. Dr Woods treated the wound as not dangerous, and County Clerk Goyert helped move the other barrel away from danger.
