The Jackson area reports night prowlers targeting riders and travelers. Horses hitched outside livery stables lose gear and threaten safety as saddle skirts and stirrup leather are damaged. farmer Geo W Peterman offers 10 dollars for identification of the culprit.
A surprise party was held Thursday evening at Zaida Gladish's West Jackson home with dancing games and refreshments. The Fulbright district north of Oak Ridge reports a clash between Kirby Probst a young teacher and Washington Bowers over a smoking ban at the school. Probst reportedly used corporal discipline on Bowers, who then returned with a switch and fatally knocked the teacher near John Davis’s barn in retaliation.
January report shows total enrollment 429 with 367 regular students and 62 in the Colored School. Daily attendance across groups averaged 343, with 127 absences of five days or more and 92 attending every day. Tardies totaled 2 and corporal punishment 1 for the whole district. Colored School had 0 tardies and 0 punishments.
