Last Monday three young men from this city planned a country ramble and to bag a few cotton tails. They were confronted by a tall angry farmer who posted the land and refused them entry. The boys were told where to cross and warned town hunters cannot trespass. One hunter joked the farmer would weigh three hundred pounds and be ten feet tall. After his death seven to eight years ago his sons Joe and Louie continued the business in a new brick shop with modern machinery and a gasoline engine. Their steady work has built a first class shop offering blacksmith and woodwork services.
Jackson merchants propose a town wide draw for trade with coordinated special sales on selected days. Each merchant offers lower prices on specific lines such as gloves dress goods and skates while ensuring no conflicts. Prizes for farmers with best grain loads or finest babies are advertised regionally to boost turnout.

The first arrest in this county under the compulsory school attendance law was made by Sheriff Osborne this week. Pony Harris of Twelve Mile Creek was arrested for failing to send his child to school. He gave bond of $100 for his appearance in the city on the 25th of this month.
A work train carrying Greeks and Italians derailed near Kennett last week due to a defective rail and several injured. Some Greeks threatened the engineer, accusing him of causing the incident, but he deterred them with a coal pick and the group calmed, returning to work.
