The census records 3799 pupils in Butts County with 288 whites and 211 colored in Jackson city 107 whites 11 colored Pepperton 73 whites 52 colored Flovilla 73 whites 17 colored Jenkinsburg. Only six white children over ten can neither read nor write. Nine hundred eighty whites and 348 colored attended public schools over five months in 1912. Per capita county funding over the last five years averaged about $3.43 annually, possibly about $3 this year, underscoring the need for an accurate count of school age children.
