Itasca village trustees authorized Warren Chemical Co to test rusty water samples at its lab and report findings. A recommended chemical additive may be proposed to improve the supply free of charge. The study aims to identify economical remedies for the water system.
At a Salt Creek watershed meeting in Elk Grove Village Hall officials discussed expanding the Itasca Green Belt south of Irving Park Road and east of Route 53. The extra 100 acres would be used for a storm water retention basin and floodwater storage, with portions to remain grass during dry spells.
Promotions in rank were presented to two Itasca police officers by Chief Stanley Rossel with the Itasca Village Board’s approval. Robert E. Fogel and Melvin Militell were sworn in as corporals to join Sgt. Peter S. Andersen as shift commanders when 24 hour operations begin on November 6. A new radio operator staff of women was hired for the program. Fogel joined in May 1962 and Militell in May 1965 with prior Addison police experience.
Six Lake Park High School students received letters of commendation for outstanding performance on the 1967 National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Named were Theodore Dlugosz Jr, Carla J DuBois, Paul P Prevenas, David P Troyke, James M Wisniewski, and Janet A Wunder. Three Lake Park juniors remain as semifinalists: Jane M Debowski, Robert Marshalla, and Michael B Maxwell.
Itasca police report a burglary attempt at the Sears and Ben Franklin stores in the Itasca Shopping Center early Thursday. A delivery driver alerted authorities after driving into town at 1:30 a.m. with horn blaring. Roof suspects fled as police arrived. window entry was forced. A canvas money bag was found opened and tools matched items from a Northbrook lumber yard. nothing reported missing.
Mrs. Graham Holt of Prospect Heights reports success in selling her boat after responding to PADDOCK PUBLICATIONS classified ads. The ad urged readers to take advantage of a money saving combination run on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with contact numbers for DuPage, DuPage Bartlett and Chicago listings.
An 18 year old Bensenville youth, Larry Strong, was charged with six counts including theft and driving while intoxicated after a gas station theft in Roselle. Passenger Paul G Picard and two witnesses described a late model Ford fleeing Route 19 before officers stopped the vehicle in the Roselle Ford lot. Strong faces additional counts of resisting arrest wrong lane usage reckless driving and open liquor in a motor vehicle with bond set at 3100 and a Wheaton court date of Oct 30.
Six Paddock area suburbs and DuPage County used sealed bids for de-icing salt with identical prices. In most cases bids were $12.80 per ton delivered, except Hardy Salt Co. at $13.20 in two villages. Illinois official says identical bids alone do not prove collusion. one price can exist in competitive markets.
Lake Park High School endured a 25 to 23 homecoming defeat by Crown while festivities proceeded Saturday. Kathy Wentzel was crowned Homecoming queen with Camille Spezio Marsha Skoglund and Nancy Hodgin as court members.
A referendum to establish a Wood Dale park district and elect five commissioners will be held November 18. The boundary runs roughly from Devon Avenue to the Brookwood Country Club area, with polling at the fire department hall on 270 N Wood Dale Road. Mrs. Janis Murray of the Junior Women's Club leads the campaign citing lack of public recreation outside Lion Wood Park and encroaching nearby districts.
A triangle of land about three‑fourths of an acre was removed from the Itasca Green Belt behind the site of a new Itasca State Bank building on Irving Park Road. Trustees say the parking area benefits residents and negotiations continue for the 60 acre Green Belt recreation and open space plan.
