The third annual western Montana apple show will be in Missoula from October 16 to 21 next year. A committee meeting approved the dates to avoid conflicts with other fairs. The report notes a housing shortage in Libby, with high demand and limited supply affecting residents.
The Chicago market faces a shrinking western range cattle run this season. Receipts for August through October totaled 266,800 with overall season estimates near 366,800, about 800 less than last year. Prices ranged from 4.00 to 6.75 for various classes, with top beef steers at 6.25 to 6.75 and cows 4.90 to 5.50. buyers favored steers under 5.75 while interest in higher-priced stock waned.
