Northern Pacific President Visits Miles City

President Howard Elliott of the Northern Pacific arrived in Miles City in a private car with road officers. He announced that work on the Glendive to Helena cutoff via White Sulphur Springs would begin soon and that old-line traffic would not be affected. Elliott planned speeches in Spokane at the annual apple show and discussed the northwest year ahead and settler influx.

Sugar company distributes half million to Yellowstone farmers

Approximately half a million dollars was paid to farmers in the Yellowstone valley and surrounding counties by the Sugar company in the first of two monthly sugar beet payments. Ninety percent of beets have reached the Billings factory, with good weather expected to bring in the rest over ten days. The crop shows high sugar content and yields of 18 to 20 tons per acre in some areas, valued at $5 to $5.50 per ton. The Huntley project reports exceptional yields and the company operates three dumps on the project.

Sugar beet project advances toward top national status

The sugar percentage is high and the project seems set to become among the nation’s best sugar beet sections. Shipments of the company’s product have largely gone to North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and Minnesota. The December payment will arrive around mid month, possibly a bit earlier, totaling about $800,000 across two payers.
