State Traffic Commission backs Broadway at White Plains Road signal while residents urge Ardsley Avenue crosslight. Editorial questions subsidy favors for real estate developers amid housing shortages and argues against municipal subsidies that boost development costs.
The community mourns the death of Thomas Luke, partner of the late Bessie Sterling Luke, whose modest benefactions funded much of local improvement. He was the last of four brothers who settled in Westchester forty years ago. only Adam Luke survives, having moved away and sold his local holdings. The Lukes integrated into the town and dedicated themselves to its betterment.
The Irving School Kindergarten will hold registrations on Wednesday May 19 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the kindergarten room at Tring Shock. A birth certificate must be presented at registration.
Farward Mooney of Son Fereis Steed will wed Jonepy Lis Cichocki on May 25 at the Tete Conception Churel. Miss Mooney graduated from the Tnisienlnte Conception Sehoal and attended Teengio High School. She is employed by the Sony American Philips Company. Mr Giciecki graduated from Hastings High and Schonami is employed by the Zineter Chews Company in Hasina.
In cooperation with the U S Army the Village of Irvington will present Victory Medals to eligible veterans residents who served in World War II through December 1 1946 to be verified by discharge papers at the Village Clerk Town Hall. Medals to be presented Memorial Day May 31 1948 at Memorial Park. papers stamped by Army authorities and medals returned. Mayor Duncan G Smith urges cooperation. Dated May 11 1948.
Funeral services for Thomas Luke are set for 2 3 tomorrow at the Presbyterian Church where he was a longtime member. The Wakefield native, son of Donald K Luke and Mrs Parker Wilson, will be laid to rest at Sleep Tall Cemetery following a simple service led by Pastor Philip Wotcote and Rev Adam Wier. Luke, a Westchester resident since 1911, led the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. as director and long served in its leadership after joining in 1920. He leaves a wide family including four daughters and his son Donald K Luke of Irvington, among others.
A youth rally drew attention at Fown Hall with organizers aiming to mobilize young residents. Participants gathered to hear speakers and share plans for community engagement and service opportunities in the city.

Irvington High School seniors plan an Amateur Nite on May 21 at the SADuctock Irvington Series Auditorium. The program features acts from within Irvington schools, with skits dances and songs. The 7 Up’s LPS dance band will play after the show under Bob Hock’s direction.
The Rev Charles W Blesch submits the Westchester District No 6 Catholic Charities Appeal district report through April 23 showing collections of 4764073 an increase of 1595 over 1618099 last year The district list includes parishes such as Lady of Perpetual Help Ardsley Sacred Heart Dobbs Ferry Lady of Pompei Hastings St Stanislaus Hastings Healy Cross North Tarrytown St Teresa North Tarrytown and St Francis de Sales Tarrytown with totals around 1048 reflecting district wide fundraising progress
Motorists fined in village court include Margaret Hefferman of New York whopay for spitting on the sidewalk, Duane Gaoner of Kent County cited for driving an unsafe mile, and Chubarat Dery of New York charged for a returned Coke purchase.
Trustees Debate zoning changes after a public hearing on April 20 with suggestions from community leaders and business owners. The board will review proposals and hold another hearing before deciding on amendments to height limits side and front yard standards and commercial signs.

Allan Campbell of 10 Nurul Dat Street died Monday morning after a brief illness at Tarrytown Hospital. A heart attack was diagnosed after collapse on Cobh Lane. He was born October 22, 1878 in Scotland and came to Trvineton in 1938. Survived by wife Grace, a daughter Katherine, son William and a grandchild. Funeral services held at Hope Presby stern Church with Rev Tessamin Evert officiating. The Tarrstown police investigated the death and funeral plans followed. Campbell was a printer by trade and was associated with local Scottish clans and organizations.
The Levington Presbyterian Church plans a Father-Son Dinner at the church Thursday evening. Fathers and sons of all ages, including those of different denominations, will attend. Women of the church prepare the dinner as thanks for mothers and daughters events. A notable program free of charge features a sound travel titled Fish From Hall. Mayor Du Jean G. Somth presides. Milton Bjorsstad chairs. Tickets handled by Wesley Shuler.
Five door prizes were donated for the South Anniversary Celebration of the Children's Museum to be held Saturday afternoon at the Washington teving in Tarrstown. Main prize is a Steger deluxe wagon from Yeager Cycle Store of White Plains, another a ride for a child from Williams of White Plains, plus groceries, a Roger and Gallet gift set, a card table, costume jewelry, a garden item, a leather petite frame, and a gentleman's tile set among others. Three motion pictures from the New York Zoo will be shown: Baby From Borneo, Safari in the Drone, and Stars in Stripes. Tickets are available at Irvington School and Quix Ride.
The P T A announces scholarship winners from Irvington High School for next year. Cae Galli will study at the Latin American Institute and Robert Lander will pursue engineering at Manhattan College. Exact prize amounts will be determined. unawarded prizes will be distributed at the final PTA meeting.
Presenters Miss Duffy directs first grade class in a stage rendition of Hansel and Gretel. Parents and friends along with other students attended the afternoon performance, enjoying a colorful student production.
The International Dish of Hack ley School sponsors an exhibition of paintings by Nass eet Daphnis of New York at the Hackley School Gallery. The exhibition runs from May 4 with a tea and preview on Sunday May 16 at 4 p m. Mel Tate Fermison and her young Loraine of Mint Street attended with relatives in Utica.
Barbara Wininger is named valedictorian and Jane Harriman salutatorian of the 1948 Irvington High School graduating class. Announced by supervising Principal Raymond Townsend, the honorees are based on scholastic averages from last January exams. The ceremony will be June 28 at Town Hall with address by D S W Claude Hardy, ex White Plains superintendent.
The Hudson Valley Valley Orchestra elected Mrs. Mitchell i Granwick of Tarretown as president for 1848 49. Other new officers include Mrs. John A. Querker vice president Mrs. Richest Ly Day Hastings secretary Mrs. J Gabriel Becker Dobbs Rerey treasurer Robert Tolinson and Mise Varseia Halleck of Tarrytown as librarian and assistant librarian. Rehearsals are Thursdays at 7 30 PM at the Masters School in Dob Ferey. experienced players are welcome to join.
The final Seamen's Institute meeting was noted with plans and credits shared. Dr and Mrs Kelly were mentioned and Miss Mea Woods would assist, with dates and distribution among attendees.
