Taxpayers face higher bills next year as the school board approves a $1.84 rate increase and the village council adopts a 64 cent rise. The school district plans to raise $36,310 more by tax, an 181 percent jump, while the village tax increase amounts to $7,117, up 4.2 percent.
The Irvington P T A funds two scholarships for local graduates based on need and character. On May 8 at Dobbs Ferry High School the John Reed King radio show Missus Goes A Shopping will entertain and help raise money for the fund. Attendees contributing $2 may win cash prizes totaling $900.
Minutes from a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees held Monday evening May 3 19K in the Town Hall show discussions on area fire calls police cooperation and street issues. Items include Elm tree spraying 257.80 plus 25 for Matthiessen Park and Memorial Park, parking rules on Dowds Lane, a new firefighter appointment and driver change, drainage concerns on Main Street, and a $18000 village tax note to fund municipal needs.
Trustees approve a budget with a 42 percent tax rise and a $197,131 expenditures total. The $148 per thousand rate marks an increase over prior proposals, with library and police pay provisions highlighted. Only one member spoke at hearing as costs for sick leave, storm drain work, and public services drew concern.

An engagement notice from New York announces Florence Gibly of 825 Fite Jwunte, New York, to Jerome R A Monks son of Mr and Mrs Fenoine Moths of Irvinton. Florence is a granddaughter of Walter Gibb Mes, George Hunter and others. Jerome attended Fordham University Harvard College and the Catholic University of Amelia. He served five years in the Army, earned the Distinguished Service Cross and Silver Star, and retired as a major. He is to marry Florence, a graduate of Chaya School New York and Barnore School. The couple are connected to the Monks family. Kindergarten registration announced for May 12 afternoons and mornings.
The P T A elected Mrs Buren as president and named officers for the coming year at a Monday evening session in the High School Auditorium. First vice president is Mrs Samuel Knos, second vice president Mrs Richard Wells, recording secretary Mrs David Ratter, and corresponding secretary Mrs William Warnock. The meeting included remarks by Miss Hele Stohe and Miss Jacqueline Fower on student activities and education. A benefit to be held in the Edo Auditorium Friday was announced in connection with the New York State Music Association contest.
A new method of producing vitamin D3 has been developed and entered for U.S. Patent 240001, announced by Phil... Laboratories of Livington. Invented in 1932 in the Netherlands, the method is described as widely adopted with two months of activity in the Netherlands on vacation.
The Holy Name Society plans a Mothers Day breakfast at Leighton's Woodlands Lake Row on May 9 after an 8:30 a.m. Mass. Members will hear from Jimmy Powers, sports editor of the New York Daily News, about the committee’s schedule and the guest speaker’s remarks.
The Irvington PTA fundraiser Sunday night at Dobbs Ferry High School Auditorium offered many prizes valued in the hundreds. Winners included popular teens and guests like John Reed King as master of ceremonies. Proceeds support the PTA scholarship fund and the event was broadcast on CBS.

W E Lockwood was re elected to the Board of Education with 337 votes against John J Win who had 295 votes. A total of 646 ballots were secret, 14 defective, turnout described as strong with the annual school meeting adopting a S A B O budget after lengthy discussion under the State Education Law. Budget breakdown listed General Control International Service Operation and Maintenance of Plant with various line items and estimated receipts.
Women golfers announce a busy season starting May 12 at Ardsley County Club with Opening Day luncheon hosted by Mrs James C Flynn. An approaching and patting contest will be held at the 15th green at 2 30 with prizes for members and guests.
Mrs Ida M Furman wife of Charles Furman of Tar Town died at her home in Lake Grove Long Island on Sunday. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 PM in Olive Cemetery Maspeth. She leaves two sons Howard and Milton Furman and daughter Daisy Boucher, plus a brother Gordon Avenue South Tar Town and two sisters Mrs Lise Raymond and Minera Vesperm an. Born in Tarrytown February 11 made. She married Charles E Furman December 21 11.
