Fourth of July clam bake celebrated in 1900 at Irvington
Thirty eight years ago in Irvington the Fourth of July was gloriously celebrated with a clam bake. A firemen's committee organized the event with H B Brownes, Phillip Olyers, Peter Latan, Harold Brownes and William Morris coordinating. Clams, bluefish, chicken and corn cooked over seaweed in a cast iron fountain bowl, breakfast of clam chowder, and cold boiled lobster with water melon followed. About thirty attended. expenses about three dollars per person.
