A survey shows banks selling foreclosed Irvington properties far below mortgage balances, risking depressed area values and eroded neighborly trust. Cases include a $3 000 mortgage with $4 000 debt, sold for 1 700. a $5 000 total with costs sold for 3 000. and a $13 000 mortgage sold around 8 000. The trend may prompt increased default and tax avoidance.
A long, mixed batch of letters from Irvington youths in military service. One letter from J. M. LAN writes from Weather Station, Geogia, describing Army Air Corps training, cadet exams, and postwar plans, while another from Private Mathew Smith’s unit discusses postings, weather, and civic support from Treington residents.
