John J. Murphy, 46, manager of the Peter Reeves Market at 5 Main Street in North Tarrytown, died of a heart attack at his home on Depeyster Street. He had run the store in good spirits and was not seen at opening time. Funeral High Mass at St Theresa's Church, interment Sleepy Hollow. Survived by wife Anna Green, two sons Job and James, and parents John P. Murphy and Alan Conover Murphy. He was born May 8 in Tarrytown and educated there before entering groceries.
Mark Donovan marries Mary Esther Connors in Yonkers as family and friends gather at the Conception Set church. The bride, a manager from 9 South Bexar Street, is joined by Donovan’s relatives including Terence and Eva J in a Catholic ceremony marked by a large turnout and coverage by the Westchester Publishers.
The Planning Board will meet Wednesday evening June 2 at Town Hall to discuss proposed amendments to the village zoning ordinance governing apartment house construction in Tevington. Lucille Sweetman daughter of Mr and Mrs Francis Sweetman of 25 North Fortis Street will marry Mr Thomas F Westervelt son of Mr and Mrs Theodore Westerell of Ardsley at a nuptial mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday at 11 oclock. The ceremony will be performed by Rev Francis McKay. Miss Sweetman is a graduate of Irvington High School and Pace College New York City. Westervelt a graduate of Gorton High School Yonkers and Westchester Community College majoring in electrical engineering, is employed by Schlumberger Instrument Company Research Laboratories Ridgefield Connecticut.
Irvington Public Schools faculty of 58 with spouses and friends held a dinner at Arrowhead Inn in Tuckahoe on Saturday evening June 1. Miss Helen Stubbe, retiring this year as Director of Physical Education for Girls, was honored and presented with a handsome luggage piece.
Boy Scout Troop 55 marked its first anniversary with a charter renewal ceremony at Irvington Presbyterian Church. Leaders John Sweetman and Varney Hains directed the event as Robert Flint accepted on behalf of the club. Gary Garrigues earned a merit badge in horsemanship and was named Outstanding Scout of the Year. Eagle Patrol formed with David Stephenson and Gary Garrigues as patrol leaders.
Ronald Foster son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Foster Mountain Road Irvington High School standout before college was graduated with a bachelor of science degree at the commencement exercises of the State University Teachers College at New Paltz New York on Sunday He completed the four years program of teacher preparation in general elementary education While in college he was a member of the College Union Board and of the Interfraternity Council
Irv ington High School to host commencement on Saturday at Memorial Park with Carl Carmer delivering the address. Valedictorian Allen Miller and salutatorian Ruth Wininger named. 37 seniors apply for college or higher education, with many accepted to notable colleges and schools.
Herman Myer of Dobbs Ferry represents Westchester County Volunteer Firemen's Association as alternate delegate to the 6th annual Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Convention in Kingston. Parade Saturday features 125 participants in modern and antique fire apparatus, ending at Dietz Stadium after a 2 PM start.
