Senate votes for education and housing aid amid tax concerns
The U S Senate approved $300 million in federal education aid and began a housing subsidies program expected to reach $82 million to $160 million annually with $500 million for slum clearance and a $268 million farm housing plan. Her husband died nineteen years ago.

The Village of Irvington and the Town of Greenburgh prevail in a Hudson River Naval Academy action on West Clinton Avenue 10, with Justice Frederick C. Schmidt in White Plains ruling that the academy must pay taxes on land and buildings assessed at 80000 while exempting a 25 by 300 foot strip valued at 200 for educational use. The court found the larger parcel and buildings not exempt, though portions were used for educational purposes in 1945 1946 and 1947, and noted ongoing tax obligations for the rest of the year.

Joseph F. Hellebrand Dies Suddenly in Hawthorne
Joseph F. Hellebrand of East Irvington and owner of Brandelle Supply Company died suddenly Friday in Hawthorne New Jersey while overseeing a concrete construction job. He was 51, survived by wife Mary McNanara Hellebrand and four children, with funeral a Solemn High Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception and interment in St. John's Cemetery, Brooklyn. He had lived in East Irvington three years and was known in local and regional construction circles.
