Malcolm M. Roy resigns as Irvington village attorney after over twenty years in office. His resignation, sent to village clerk Knute W. Wistrand, leaves no successor named. The board meets next Monday to consider candidates Edward Clune Peter Blast withdrawn and Arthur Connick.
The Irvington Presbyterian Church will host a choral communion service next Sunday with the choir presenting four new anthems in their first hearing. They include Springs In The Desert by Jennings and Word of God Incarnate by Gounod, with Mrs. Gilchrist and Mrs. French as soloists. Music director Harrington Van Hoesen of Masters School directs, and Mrs. Laurance Miller of Hackley School will play the organ.
High school juniors hosted the annual prom in the auditorium on Friday night for the class of 1855 to honor graduates. The theme Evening in Paris featured French colors and backdrops with Jack Gafmey’s band providing music. Junior class president William van Wagenen announced the king and queen, Aaron Miller and Betsy Bridges, as committee members and advisers Miss Eaton and W. Bolehoe supervised as chaperones.
St Barnabas Gulf members preview a December 3 Christmas Bazaar. They form committees for publicity doll table jewelry and Santa Claus with meetings starting at 9 AM Tuesday in the Yarish House.
Large crowd gathered at the War Memorial on Memorial Park for two ceremonies. Judge Roy opened the service with colors, Rev Le Harbour gave the invocation, and Mayor Harriman placed the village wreath. The parade from Main Street to the park featured the Gy. 7th Regiment unit, Boy Scouts, and uniformed groups. At Memorial Park wreaths were placed for veterans and firefighters, with addresses by Col. Charles E. Wal and Rev. John Cunneen concluding the observance.

Ardsley Park trio Grasp Waring Alan McDowell and Murray Kemp were elected as personnel assistants at Camp Keewayden on Lake Timagami in Ontario. Chase, accepted by Yale for the 1956 freshman year and an exchange student for next year, is praised as an expert canoeist who once paddled to Hudson Bay. The group brings canoeing and portaging experience as they prepare to drive the 700 miles to camp.
Mr. and Mrs. Felix Lipsky announce the engagement of their daughter Dorothy to Charles Phenix son of Mr. and Mrs. George Phenix of 7 South Dutcher Street Irvington High School graduate Dorothy is employed by the Christiania General Insurance Corporation Phenix recently returned from a 12 month Uly in Teeland and will be stationed at Andrews Air Base Maryland No wedding date has been set.
The Dobbs Ferry Evangelical Lutheran Church plans two festival services on Sunday at the corner of Ashford Avenue and Storm Street to mark the completion of the new building begun in 1950. The program includes an 8 o clock festival service with organ preludes, a festival sermon by Rev Waldemar Slinghole of Peoria First Lutheran, dedication of furnishings, and remarks by several church leaders including Rev Otto Gerbich and Rev Reginal Seager.
A large Presbyterian dinner meeting heard a strange description of Arnold's plot led by Benedict Arrald. The session included a World Series recap featuring Willie Mays. Officers Josph F. Rowan and Herndon Fletcher were elected, with other routine business noted.
The Dobbs Ferry Hospital serving Ardsley Hastings and Irvington showed a marked improvement in finances over the previous year. President Dwight Sargent announced that total financial operations were 1200 better than the prior year with increased admissions and patient days. Contributions and reserves improved as costs were cut and community support grew.
Mr and Mrs Theo dore John Young announce the engagement of their daughter Jane Noel Young to John Paul Maddox of Charleston South Carolina and Winsted. Miss Young, a graduate of the Masters School and Skidmore, is set for a wedding after Lanier served with the paratroopers in Germany and studied Bryant College and Columbia Business School.
Mrs. Anne Jenkins Keeler of Irvington died Tuesday morning at home after a brief illness at sixty six. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow at Moly Root Cemetery Westbury. She moved from Hempstead nine years ago and was born in Baltimore. She was a descendant of Edward Spaulding and other early Maryland settlers and was educated in Baltimore at St Joseph's Hospital Nursing School. Survived by husband and three children Betsy Millen Mary Anne Lansing and David J Keeler plus sisters and brothers. The parishhouse will host a parish day picnic and activities.
Mr and Mrs Wiliam Nelson of Morris Street Yonkers announce the birth of a son on Sunday May 22 at Yonkers Profession A Hospital. Mr Nelson serves on the staff of the Irvington Public Schools.
The Thursday Club presents a check for 2412.10 to Mrs. Louis M. Loeb, president of the Adoption Service of Westchester, from its 32nd annual Bonet held April 16 at Dobbs Ferry High School. Proceeds fund the Get Acquainted Nursery and Clinic at the county adoption agency headquarters in White Plains. The event featured Peter Lind Hayes and Mary Healy with and master of ceremonies Red Barber. Open House planned for June 1 at the new agency quarters.
Mrs Rolande Rioux Keaus and Miss Dolores Phenix graduate from White Plains Hospital School of Nursing on June 110. Both are Irvington High School 1982 grads. Mr Harbour joins Episcopal Church Youth Division as executive secretary, and the Harbours plan a Greenwich home with plans for continued church duties and conference leadership across several states.
Music Department will stage an evening of instrumental and choral pieces on June 10 at 8 PM in the School Auditorium. The Junior Orchestra Treble Choir and Junior Band perform with a Around the World with a Music theme featuring selections from many nations and solo demonstrations.
The next regular meeting of the Irvington P T A will be held Monday evening June 6, 1955 at 8 15 P M in the High School Auditorium. The program includes installation of officers for the coming year and a talk by Gene Lazito of Yonkers representing the Westchester Children's who will speak on What Parents Can do to Promote Citizen Rip in Children.
Over 400 volunteers, all from the hospital's Women's Auxiliary, begin the community phase to complete Phelps Memorial Hospital and fund a new nurses residence. Mrs. William McQueeny leads eight area division chairs including Mrs. Nash, Mrs. Bingham, and Mrs. Spear among others in Ardsley Park Briarcliff Croton Irvington North Tarrytown Scarborough Tarrytown and nearby communities.
